We are working on the next few country videos however literally the DAY after we filmed this, the Venezuela gatherings and Juan Guaidó movements began. After the situation clears up a little bit and more information comes out we would like to do a follow up video explaining the current state of affairs. I will have my Venezuelan friend who has family in Venezuela helping me out as well. Stay tuned!

Chile was the first South American country I went to, at the time I had a Chilean gf so it's funny to hear about this verb!!! Love your amazing country, especially Los Lagos in the south, as well as Santiago. I do have to say though that I had learnt some South American Spanish for a few months before coming, but I couldn't understand a word of Chilean Spanish, ok a little, but not much, you seem to swallow the end of words, or not finish them. Still love you guys though and it's an amazing country with amazing people, amazing scenery, and amazing wine!!! Was there for your Independence Day celebrations and went to some fondas!!!

Some contributions from a Chilean: - McDonald's wasn't banned. They just broke. - Yes. Pololo/a is the way we call to boy/girlfriends. Pololear is the verb, roughly translated as "being in a relationship". - The pronunciation is Tereré, stressing the third syllable. - Uruguayans speak very similar than Buenos Aires Argentinians. Interior Argentinians speak different. Great video!! It just lacked a bit of earthquakes.

When a Chilean asks "do you want to be my girl/boyfriend?" They don't say "quieres ser mi novia/o?" Like the rest of Spanish people, they say "quieres pololear conmigo?", I would translate it to "do you want us to be in a relationship". So the boy is pololo and the girl is polola. Fun fact, "pololo" is a word from mapudungun, the mapuche language, and it refers to a species of fly, so I guess it was born from mothers to lock the boyfriend of their respective daughters, and it evolved to being used by the whole country, not just the mapuche territories

Aww man Barby, it's too bad that you had to treat Guyana and Suriname as the same country, especially culturally (because ok, granted, physically they're kind of the same). Suriname is way more diverse ethnically, e.g. they have the highest percentage of Indonesians in both South America and the Caribbean. There's more interesting stuff to get into. I won't do that right now. It's just a bummer that you took these countries, which are already relatively unknown, and then crushed the chance to highlight something cool about them.

I am Colombian, very proud of my heritage. An ancestor was the last governor of Panama in La Gran Colombia and another ancestor helped Simon Bolivar win against the Spaniards the war for independence, he gave Bolivar fresh horses after Bolivar got to Boyaca after coming from the mountains with his men.

Hey Geography Now I LOVE your content. I'm from Chile and was very pleased with your summary of it. I laughed out loud (in a good way) with your friends' attempt at a Chilean accent 🤣🤣🤣 in answer to your question about 'pololos' yes we do make a verb out of it; if asking a person if they're dating (as in if they have a girlfriend or a boyfriend) you would ask "estás pololeando (or pololiando)?" or if asking if someone would like to be your girlfriend or boyfriend, you would say "te gustaría pololear (or pololiar) conmigo?" Love your videos! Keep up the good work!

Chile is the only country in South America that can be in a week in the mountains with snow and after being on the beach, you can go south and see large green forests with rivers, lakes and mountains or if you want to go further south (Aysen ) It's like being in Alaska. You also have other options such as going north to the Atacama desert which has beautiful views, this place is the best to see the stars around the world. If you want something more tropical you can go to Easter Island and relax for a while with the moais. 🇨🇱

I think it’s because the conquest of the other nations was so much harder and epic compared to the Caribbean. You can kinda “rank” the standing of the Latino nations to each other by how hard of a struggle or troubled their histories are. In this case, the Caribbean nations arguably have equally as complicated histories as Brazil just with less land wealth and this being the reason why they’re mostly ignored. Most of the Latin nations get ignored arguably enough, with the Caribbean’s being sort of the gateway representation for the Latin continent since they’re the most well traveled IMO outside of the Mexicans and Brazilians. So it’s not that they’re ignored so much that they keep to themselves. Also, the only people who tend to forget history started in the Caribbean tend to be the Argentinians, who are low key infamous for thinking they’re the Nords of Latin America. If it makes you feel better, all the other countries and ethnicities are sort of embarrassed of them for this rather than feel intimidated. The other ones are proud of their complex histories whereas Argentina is sort of recognized as that peroxide brunette.

@@AB-sm1qf The oldest colonial city in the Americas. Founded by Bartolomé Columbus in 1496, the city of Santo Domingo was almost completely built during the 16th century. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built by European settlers, the area holds the first streets, churches, houses, university, social and political institutions ever built by Europeans in the American Continent. Expeditions which led to Ponce de León's colonization of Puerto Rico, Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar's colonization of Cuba, Hernando Cortes' conquest of Mexico, and Vasco Núñez de Balboa's sighting of the Pacific Ocean were all launched from Santo Domingo.

I think here in Brazil we don't have many exposure about the others countries in South America in the news, music and etc, so we know quite more things with the countries we made border in our state (if is the case). I'm from Rio Grande do Sul state and I grow up seen Argentineans and Uruguayans in Brazil, so I feel more approached with them, it's quite easy to find someone here who have relatives in these countries, we have some similarities with the culture with Uruguay (in my state). It's so good we can easily travel between the countries because of Mercosul, I hope I can travel for all South America!

SURINAME 🇸🇷 You didn’t even mention anything about Suriname, speaking about football many Suriname players played for the Dutch team because they don’t have their own national team for example: Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids, Patrick Kluivert, Nigel De Jong, RUUD GULLIT, Frank Rijkaard and Gini Wijnaldum, this country alone produced more bigger footballers than for example Uruguay or Chile, all these players had big roles in European/Dutch football. Also their food is totally different, they have a Latin version of Roti, are very party full people and are very good in dancing they have amazing rhythm and good musicians for example Ronnie Flex! I’m Moroccan but I always love my Surinami people they are the most African/Indian people of South America and we get along good ! 🇸🇷🇳🇱🇲🇦
