There are different spiritual gifts for different believers. Not to mention the Holy Spirit poured out on them and gave them gifts to help them spread the word and set up the church, for they were the foundation. Specific circumstances. And when they spoke in tongues people who spoke different languages understood what they were saying. But there wasn’t anything in scripture that points to when a believer gets baptized they speak in tongues as a sign they have the Holy Spirit. If you do speak in tongues make sure you have a translator otherwise it’s of no profit and edification. Also if you’re in church do it one at a time with a translator. If you don’t have a translator then speak in tongues quietly to yourself.

The Church of God believes "In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Ghost." If you don't like what the Church of God believes regarding speaking in tongues, there are plenty of other churches from which to choose.
