if you use small popups you could've popped the bait up out of reach of the crabs and stayed at the first venue. rays ect still take a bait which is popped up a small way from the bottom. popups also work well for weed and rough ground areas.

@@ed3010 hello thanks for the advice, unfortunately I dint have them with me this trip which was a silly mistake, I usually carry with me but I really wasn’t expecting the spiders to still be in. I have made sure the pop ups live in the box now, hopefully they will have moved on soon.

Gutted for you guys. I fished Cogden on Friday and was getting stripped on every cast too. Bloody sick of spider crabs!
