I was fishing down there from a boat the other day had 2 wrasse on storm minnows and then lost a nice mackerel on a bass plug I’ve also had wrasse in the gully’s very close in just keep the rod tip high as you will loose a fair bit off gear.

Also in the spring months you can catch plaice & rays at distance on the sand in between the rock in the background ( Ham stone) and the beach. I’m a local angler and it’s a nice mark for mixed fishing just remember if you are heading down there to take care on the rocks and take all your litter home.

I have not fished there since 1987.Well i`m a Brummie and things i learnt as soon as i left my crab line days behind was because of the large amount of kelp fishermen would say they use spark plugs as weights,Fish only at high tide and buy a reference Tide book.Where Mark was standing is the same spot i cast my rod and i know this because i remember the hole somebody had drilled in the Basalt to support their rods,I do not recall the cliff face fences as i used to climb those rocks where once i found a Fluorescent Orange Navy/RAF survival suit jammed in the rocks and endless Hooks and Floats in clusters of Seaweed.Thanks for the memories and the Echo of the Ocean colliding with the caves at night .

Another great video! I grew up in Kingsbridge so am familiar with the area, and I'm not far away now! Unfortunately, being the wrong side of 60 and with some health issues, a lot of these marks are now unreachable for me, so if you have any suggestions in South West Devon for those of us that are not so able, I would be grateful. I used to fish a lot with a mate that had a boat in Bantham - we've had loads of Mackerel and a few good Pollack from the back of Burgh Island over the years, but he moved to the city & sold the boat unfortunately!
@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I gave that a lot of thought when I was in the area and there are some Interesting estuary marks around Salcombe where the road comes close to water most. Surely worth a go for the usual suspects. If you can manage the steps Salcombe sailing club gives easy access? I'm no expert here of course but this might be a good start. Is Teignmouth too far east?
@trampster7306
@trampster7306 5 жыл бұрын
@@SaltwaterAngler I'm now living in Plymouth. Teignmouth is a bit too far and I've heard that Brixham breakwater is good but it gets very crowded. Love a plate of Mackerel so trying to find an accessible rock mark for LRF & Mackerel lure fishing. Everybody says Mountbatten Pier but that also gets crowded & I like a bit of solitude, peace & quiet with my fishing! Annoying that we live so close to the sea, but there are no easy access rock marks or decent beaches in close proximity.
@masterbeethoven8209
@masterbeethoven8209 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, a few good spots for you would be polly steps in Teignmouth, both princess pier and babbacombe pier in Torquay, Brixham breakwater, and Shaldon beach. All easy places to access and close to car parks. Brixham breakwater is a half mile long so don’t worry about overcrowding. Babbacombe pier would be the best spot as it’s a good rocky area. Iv caught mackerel,pollack,pilchards, scad, whiting and dogfish all from that mark. Tight lines

@@trampster7306 If you are travelling light and dont mind a bit of hill walking Hope Cove is a great place to get Big Mackerel and Garfish in the Autumn. West Hoe Pier is criminally underrated during the Winter for Herring with LRF gear and you never know what could turn up on bottom fished Lug baits at distance. A good spot you could also try for Mackerel is Dartmouth castle. I fish it for Thornbacks in the Winter and Spring. The rocks can be a bit slippery though.

I think it's fine to share marks just not specific fish and respective bait and tactics. This is meant as a general overview and an Angler has a lot to do. Some people think you have to turn up at a venue just to catch but tides, seasons, temperatures, local climate, water users, wind direction, previous weather often put ay to that! Sea Angler magazine has been providing great general mark information for years especially before the Internet! So I won't give away my favourite secrets and only general advice here. Thanks for taking the time to comment glad it's appreciated scott
