I always loved Saugatuck. The Butler was a favorite lunch spot. My grandparents lived about 10 miles south of there. Beautiful place and always super nice people.

My Grandfather Paul J. Beebe Sr. rebuilt Saugatuck in the 1970's!

Thank you for commenting! We started doing this so we could save our adventures to watch when we are old and sitting in our rocking chairs. It has been a pleasant suprise that so many people are following along and enjoying our videos!😀

FB, I enjoyed seeing this next visit after South Haven. Again, another really nice vacation port off of Lake Michigan. I was wondering how your Carver would do in the five foot swells. Without some real speed and a gyro, you will tend to rock and roll rather than lunge from swell to swell. That's why I like express cruisers and especially the Boston Whaler with their foam filled hull... no drumming on the waves... much quieter. But EC's just don't have the room like you have on a bigger yacht. Tight living quarters... but the speed and time saved on rough waters makes up for allot of sins... 😊 Gord

Hi Gord, We can get her up on a plane and get going if it gets rough and it makes it a much smoother and quick ride. Freebird can go up to 30 mph. But she drinks a lot of diesel so we don't do it that oftern.

@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop Indeed, FB. Twin diesel inboards are thirsty critters. Filling up those enormous fuel tanks is definitely going to set you back a ways. Glad to hear that it smooths out on plane. Looking forward to seeing more of your destinations this past summer... on Lake Michigan and through the other lakes. Were you able to steer clear of Helene on your way around? West Coast Florida got smothered with sand and waves. Most of the construction on the Keys along the intercostal, from Ft. Meyers all the way up to the panhandle were smooshed out. You will need to plan accordingly. Gord

@@gorrdd Thanks for the warning. We have decided to not head down to Florida this winter due to the destruction and not wanting to take up marina space from those that are residents who need it. Stay tuned for future plans after the summer.

In August we left Saugatuck to head back to St. Joseph and we were in 5’ with some 6’ waves in our Chris Craft 381. It was interesting that our camera did not pick up how big the waves truly were. That drive from the channel head to Singapore Yacht Club seemed to take about an hour at ideal speed.

We know what you mean! They are way bigger then the camera sees! Is your home port St. Joseph?

@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoopyeah. We keep the boat at Pier 1000. We live just west of Ft. Wayne so it’s about an hour and forty minute drive each weekend. We bought the boat in Saugatuck though.
