If you can stuff as much into the tank bag as you can, it's better than weight on your back for sure.

Yeah, my petrol bike sprung a fuel leak that I've tried 5 times to fix. The only thing left to replace is the fuel tap and apparently Hyosung gave up on Australia just like Zero did and I can't get parts... Plus it isn't charging and I'm looking at having to replace the stator and/or rectifier (again... I probably haven't even done 1000 km since getting that fixed). I haven't been able to troubleshoot the electrical problem because of the fuel leak... Yeah, I don't miss ICE vehicles at all!

How ironic that our gas bikes are having electrical / charging issues? 😂
@awo1fman3 жыл бұрын
@@NewZeroland Unfortunately, bikes have a long history of weak electrical systems. It's partly due to them being much more exposed to the elements than cars, partly because of size and simplicity constraints, and partly because bikes are made to sell, not to last.

Twisty road with no speed limit and no traffic! THE DREAM! Btw I am really curious what was wrong with the Triple at the end. Since the mechanic checked all fluids level, and could not tell what was wrong everything points out to an electrical issue (which would be soo ironic) looking forward part 5 now!

@NewZeroland3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, John! You're converting one?? Did we talk about this before? It sounds so familiar. I'm not sure how the inspections / certification stuff works in the UK but over here it seems pretty relaxed. Someone converted an older Daytona a few years ago. Nowadays I think the easiest way to do it would be mounting up components from a wrecked Zero.

I don't trust most mechanics. Surely the ST would at least throw up a warning light or fault code if it was an engine problem. If it went to 2cyl after a wet night you'd have to think water got into electrics aye? Those motors are pretty bulletproof. Look forward to the next video.
@NewZeroland3 жыл бұрын
No warning lights. That was the mysterious part. He said it was overheating in the top end but since all the sensors were in the bottom, it wasn't throwing any errors on the dash. That may have been a problem we inherited the bike with.. the misfiring could have been related to that, or water in the electrics. The wiring was definitely screwed, as we found out soon after this 😂

Problem with the faulty cylinder is that it may still inject fuel but no spark. The fuel then washes the oil off cylinders and you get high wear and even the risk of a Kolbenfresser (is German don't know in English).

Yeah I feel ya. It's always awkward importing an electric motorcycle, because I know it came across the ocean on a giant cargo ship.. but the only way NZ can get it's vehicles is by importing them, so if we have to do it, they might as well be electric :)

I don't think much of your mechanic, checked all the wrong things. Most likely problem is ignition, pull plugs and change , check the old ones because if piston rings are going at least one plug will look oily. If the plugs are Ok, check that they are all getting spark. If the ignition checks out OK, check compression, which needs a compression tester. Otherwise check that they are all getting fuel, I suppose some of the modern stuff is injection but then that is less likely to give trouble than the old float bowls and jets that block. In the old days it would have been electrics by Lucas, prince of darkness. You really need to be able to do a basic level of diagnosis yourself or you will get ripped off. When I did the Haast pass road during the 70's on the Honda CB100, it was all gravel from Haast to Hawea.
@NewZeroland3 жыл бұрын
Wow I can't imagine that road being gravel. That's a crazy long distance, too. And I think you're right. It definitely felt like it was miss firing and needed plugs. There were some other issues that couldn't be fixed on the trip though, but those will have to wait for future episodes 😁
