This is without a doubt the best KZbin video about the South Kaibab - Bright Angel trail hike. I’m planning on making my second hike along this route in a couple of months. My 17 year old son wants to make this trek and we are preparing now with daily hikes and learning what we can. Thank you for posting this video of your journey. I especially wanted my son to see how tough the end of the hike is from Indian Gardens to the rim. You captured it perfectly. “My legs are jelly” summed it spot on with that comment.

What a great and useful video! Thank you so much for sharing. I am beginning my training journey to hike South Kaibab to Bright Angel in October2023. I’ve had much anxiety visualizing the trails. It seems from your video that there aren’t too many parts or long sections where there isn’t at least one side with a wall!😊 Would love to hear some of your dos and don’ts in preparation for my trip!

Hi Denise, I just started my training as well. My sister and I are doing a Rim to River in October with a stay at Phantom. Maybe we'll see you on the trail. When will you be there?

Just got home from a trip to the GC. Short Hiked the bright angel. Making plans to go back next fall and hike the same as you, but do it over three days. Hiking down the south kaibab. Staying the fist night at Bright angel camp ground. The next night at Indian garden. And then finish off the last 4.6 miles the third day up the bright angel. I figure at 60 this will be my only trip to the bottom and I really don’t want to miss anything by rushing through. Great video.. thanks for sharing the experience.

Dude you are my new favorite KZbinr! I was cracking up you are just like me personality wise. But great job! It’s incredible I’m hiking this same trail In June!

I did hike up Bright Angel Trail years ago, but last September did just down to Indian Gardens and back up. I wasn’t used to the high elevation.. some mild soreness but main problem was mental.. not easy but worth it! I just would not do rim to river to rim in one day. Nothing was more beautiful that to cross the last tunnel, see the Kolb studio, and exit the trailhead! ❤️your excellent video!

Fantastic job! You can only experience the Grand Canyon at its best by being there and hiking it!!! I did this exact hike in a day March 2018, then did R2R March 2019. So fantastic. As I'm sitting watching, im ready to lace up my shoes and start hiking. Thanks 😊 🙏

In August of 2019 I hiked down the south Kiabab trail to the Phantom Ranch , eat my lunch then turned around and hiked back up Bright Angel trail in 7 hours and 15 minutes, my garmin tracked me at 18 miles….I was 68 years old and I trained in Durango Colorado two weeks prior , mountain biking, hiking, and road cycling to acclimate at elevation.

@StevenTorrey3 жыл бұрын
Just out of curiosity, how old are you? The suggested mileage for descent (1/2 hour for every mile) and for ascent (1 hour for every mile) is an optimum. I would imagine that could vary depending on age and how heavy your backpack. Full backpack could weigh in a 30 lbs and light backpack could still weigh in at 10 lbs.

So happy for you! Last November I made it down to ooh aah point and want to go all the way to phantom ranch like you did. Going back up was tough so I can't imagine what it is like from rim to river to rim. I am going to try doing that hike this November/December. Do you have any recommendations or tips based on your hike? Thank you Ethan.
@ethanshikingchannel73823 жыл бұрын
Yes! Biggest tips are to start early cause it will mostly likely take you all day, don't try it in summed cause it will be way too hot at the bottom, and bring something to replenish electrolytes like Gatorade. Good luck! It's an amazing hike!

How often did you use your poles? Did you use them a lot going down also? I was going to stay at Phantom Ranch last fall but they closed half the dorms for a water project so I didn't get to stay there.
@ethanshikingchannel73824 жыл бұрын
I used my poles the whole time. I definitely relied on them more going up then down.
