Wow, Thanks for the video. I have spent a lot of time on that mountain as a skier and ski instructor from the late 60's to the mid 80's. I actually did that hike to the summit in the summer of 1970. What an experience and, you are right, the view from the summit is absolutely awesome. Brings back a lot of very fond memories.

Thank you for letting me relive some old memories of the time I spent in El Paso TX. This was a different trail.but i enjoyed it a lot. I used to walk all over the tops of the mountains at McCulloughgan canyon I loved climbing around on the rocks and I always had to see what was at the top of the mountain beautiful views standing in one spot I could see two states and two countries all in one view. For this Florida boy it was breathtaking it was a awesome place.

So informative with the views and info about areas of class 3 moves, scrambling and exposure on both routes. I do have a question about the path to the upper trailhead....is that trail exposed or is it relatively safe to navigate in the proper vehicle?
@PFBM864 ай бұрын
The North Fork trail to Chimney Top is my favorite hike in that area, you should check it out! It's 2.8 miles each way and gains 2000 ft of elevation on the way up leading to an insane overlook over the valley you started from. The North Fork trail actually goes another 20 miles south along the ridge from there and apparently has a lot of similar views along the way although I've only ever hiked it to Chimney Top.

It's about respect. Ask next time before you go. It's a sacred place, a holy place for us. You don't see anyone there because it's only to gather medicine.
@ethanshikingchannel73824 ай бұрын
Who are you?
@Phantom_Prospect4 ай бұрын
Just because it’s sacred to you doesn’t mean we can’t have our own spiritual experiences on the mountain. You may use the land to gather medicine, but we use it to gather spiritual experiences. Neither of our reasons are any less valid, so gatekeeping a whole mountain because of that is quite ridiculous.
@Steve-qz5ivАй бұрын
@@Phantom_Prospect @Phantom_Prospect It is disrespectful to disregard the basic rule of a tribe of people who have lived there long before Europeans got to the continent. It's not even the whole mountain - as you can see in the video lookout ridge is right there and is the second tallest point in the mountain range. It's not hard to reach out a week beforehand and ask on their website.

I hiked this about two weeks ago with my wife. We watched your video before heading out, and it was a great help. Your enthusiasm really convinced her that we needed to do this hike. We were originally going to do Guadalupe Peak, but 50 mile an hour wind gusts convinced us that that it wouldn’t be safe. McKittrick Canyon was much more sheltered and enjoyable, even though a very strong blast almost knocked us over as we crossed a wash.
