@@Aussienuna3434look on Google maps. There's nothing to protect but a wrecking yard and some farm allotments. No housing for about 800-1000 metres. And you don't use a reinforced concrete wall unless you want to kill a lot of people. You use steel cable and netting. Criminal negligence.
@berenscott89992 күн бұрын
Information: the wall was holding the antenna equipment. It's at the south end of the runway pointing towards the sea. It's not uncommon for such equipment to be placed at the end of the runway.
@rudyberkvens-be2 күн бұрын
Forgot to extend the landing gear because of the stress due to engine loss. With gear extended it would have been an uneventful landing.
@davidtunstall64542 күн бұрын
There was a concrete barricade embedded into the ground at the end of the runway that supported a handful of antennas. This catastrophe could have been completely avoided if those antenna had been placed elsewhere and the plane had more room to run along the grass before hitting the actual airport brick wall which was made out of much softer besa blocks and as per aviation guidelines - designed to disintegrate on impact.
@John-p7i5g2 күн бұрын
Antennae are localisers for non visual approach so they need to be at the end of the runway. But yes. Zero reason for a reinforced concrete wall. Insane.

The concrete structure at the end of the runway was actually not at the end of the runway, but at the beginning of the runway because the pilot attempted two crash landings. He turned around on the second attempt and landed on the runway in the opposite direction. That's why the concrete structure containing the antennas was there.

No fuel dumping, no foam on the runway, no firetrucks readily available, no spoilers or speed breaks deployed, no landing gear manually deployed, no slowing down the aircraft's speed before actual touchdown, no actual landing at the start of the runway to maximize available tarmac's length, no slowing down of the aircraft at all (none).. and then a massive concrete wall built directly after the end of the runway? This was not an accident. Very simply this has got to be the biggest incompetence flying circus freak show I have ever witnessed.

@@Nathan-yy2xs The incident is still under investigation, and not much has been revealed yet, so I cannot give a definitive answer. However, the landing gear failed to deploy due to a malfunction. As a result, the captain decided on a belly landing. The aircraft initially attempted to land but had to go around because a normal landing was not possible. The captain then decided to attempt landing again on the opposite runway. Although it’s uncommon, the concrete wall is there to protect the surrounding commercial and residential areas, considering the unique location of Muan Airport. At the time of the incident, all rescue teams, fire trucks, and personnel were on standby nearby. Please refrain from jumping to conclusions before anything is fully clarified.

Pilot error most likely.. No landing flaps, no gear or spoilers deployed. A bird strike to an engine would not affect flaps. spoilers and gear. In the event Hydraulics fail they can lower gear manually. As this was a second attempt at a landing the Pilots possibly just forgot to do the checklist for landing. Huge mistake that killed so many.
