I’m south korean. there had been rumors that president Yoon would declare martial law on armed forces day (October 1st). When this was mentioned in the national assembly, the presidential office immediately protested, and the controversy quickly subsided. Considering south Koreas political climate, it’s quite rare for the national assembly to comply so readily with the president’s stance. In this martial law declaration, the president stated his intent to “eradicate” anti-state and pro-North Korea forces all at once. It seems likely that this is part of something he has been preparing for a while. We’ll probably find out the details when morning comes (it’s 1:00 AM here).

Honestly, from an apolitical view on the situation, the head of state and by extension, the head of the executive wields the authority to declare martial law and carry it out too. Meaning, neither the police nor military has any political say, they are and honestly should remain as mere instruments of political action. Really, the only thing that's left is to argue the constitutionality behind its declaration, being that parliament is being blocked from voting to overrule said authority, and in which case we just hope that the military and police recognises that this constitutional issue forfeits his legitimacy. So, in fact, it's about to what extent those forces are radicalised for him to succeed. Like, it could be a matter of time that so long as communications are online, for low-ranking officers to consider the situation and splinter from his authority.

South Korea has entered a critical political phase. Politically, South Korea plays a significant role in East Asia as a democratic nation alongside Japan, while being geographically close to communist countries such as China and North Korea. However, unlike Japan, South Korea, as a peninsula nation bordering mainland China and North Korea, is facing interference and subversion against democracy by communist forces. During the previous administration, South Korea’s Democratic Party stripped the country’s counter-espionage and anti-communist investigation authorities of their powers, leading to incidents such as the leakage of classified national information. Furthermore, despite clear evidence of election fraud, the Democratic Party is attempting to cover it up. Using the overwhelming number of seats obtained through fraudulent elections, they are pushing through unreasonable legislation, obstructing the ruling party’s legislative efforts and governance, and engaging in actions that harm national interests. Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party’s leading presidential candidate, is embroiled in serious criminal cases. Despite this, he is attempting to impeach the prosecutors handling his cases, obstructing and delaying the appointment of Constitutional Court justices to fill vacancies, and intentionally delaying investigations and trials concerning himself. The current declaration of martial law by South Korea’s president is by no means an attempt at a coup or insurrection. Despite clear evidence of illegal election fraud by the National Election Commission (NEC), judicial collusion with local court judges has made it difficult to obtain warrants or conduct investigations. As a result, martial law was declared to forcibly conduct investigations, including seizing servers and equipment from the NEC. The fraudulent activities of South Korea’s NEC have already proven that countries adopting electronic voting systems are significantly vulnerable to election fraud. South Korea has now entered a phase of addressing and investigating this issue. For those who do not understand or have misunderstood the current political situation in South Korea, this explanation is intended to set the record straight.
