The days of the NSL were absolutely magic in the 90s. Nothing better than Middle Park, Somers Street, Heidelberg and Preston. They have killed it now. It's so sanitised when I come back to Melbourne that I feel I have to go and watch games only in Turkey,Greece,Croatia or Italy to get the same atmosphere.

The true Melbourne derby was Heidelberg United vs South. More fans turned up to this derby then the South vs knights derby who only really became a derby in the 90's.

On 8:28....Massimo Murdocca. That was the winning goal after 90mins in a 3-2 win. Was fucking amazing that day. Only thing I really remember about the goal itself, was the Hellas throng surging to the fence when it went in. Chaos.

Nsl was far better then the retirement village the A-League is. Players retired mid 30's back in the nsl now its the recruiting age. Passion is manufactured today not grown through cultural back grounds like Preston Sth Melb and Melb Croatia. I still can't say boutsianis without saying fucken ahead of his name. It was always good beating up on sydney teams who thought their shit dont stink. Knights and hellas have it to them big time.

Nah, nah, nah, not your traditional derby. My old man used to tell me as a kid the real traditional derby in Australia was Prague v Yugal and in Melbourne it was USC Lion v Port Melbourne Slavia.
