Greetings Wolfie. From a fellow navigator albeit from the two planers (at sea, that is), you're wrong about a small detail here. However small it is I must arrest you on it :) I thought I never had to call you out on this, but my comment comes from a place of admiration, and I'm not trying to get you into a tight spot here. I do feel, however, the need to tell you that the key thing about the sun's apparent movement is not the equator, instead it's the declination. As a navigator I've taken the sun's meridian passage many times and once you are situated south of the latitude value of the sun's declination you will have the sun in due north at the time of the meridian passage. The sun will move across the sky from east to west passing due south at its highest when you are on a spot which has a latitude higher than that of the value of the sun's declination. And thus the opposite "way" if you have a latitude under the value of the sun's declination the sun will pass the meridian due north. For example when you are at, say, latitude 15 degrees North and the sun's declination is over that, say, 22 degrees North (almost summer solstice on the northern hemisphere), you will have the sun moving from right to left. Also you could have the sun move like it does for me (I'm Norwegian) always moving from left to right as I'm always going to be at latitude North of the sun's declination. So the apparent movement of the sun is not dependant of the equator, rather the relation you have with it in terms of latitude versus the sun's actual declination. After watching your great videos about the hoola hoop I just had to point that out. Keep up the good work, Wolfie. Give the flattards what they truly deserve, I good dose of the truth. They are really ignorant..... And sometimes flat out, stupid. Or only looking for clicks..... Thanks for many great videos :) and greetings from the high north... Bjørn Anthun

To be generous to FEers... I think many of them are using FE as a money-making tool. It's terrible that they are taking advantage of others but I just don't buy that they are so ridiculously stupid, especially the ones who conduct experiments and end up proving that our planet actually does spin and/or is basically a sphere... Is it possible that they ARE this dumb? Sure. Is it likely? I am not convinced the answer is "Yes", not for all of them.

The observation shows two things: (1) The Sun's apparent movement across the sky (the path called ecliptic) formed by an angle between the plane of rotation of the Earth and Earth's orbit around the Sun. On a Flat Earth Model, no matter where the observer is, the Sun should move in a counterclockwise ellipse (unless observe at North Pole, the exception), and will not form an angle as it sets. (2) The angle at North/South hemisphere is actually due to the Earth's globe shape.

I think an interesting proof of the equatorial mount function would be to set it up, inside as you did, an hour or two before sunset and lock it onto the Sun. This of course assumes you have one of the computerized mounts where you can specify the Sun as the target. Once it is locked on, film until an hour or so after Sunset, with your camera back so that one can see that the telescope is moving on its on. That way you can show it's function in a timelapse without any human interaction. I have a Celestron NexStar 5 SE and I am still working on the operation side of things (like tracking) but my goodness, it is so addicting when you start looking at Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mars, then, switch over to the Moon, especially along the terminator... the detail is just mindboggling!

You need to get a Kiwi ;) to do this sunset time lapse sequence. The shallower angle of the Sun's path, due to the more southerly latitude, will make for a larger azimuthal shift in the twilight glow. This will be much more obvious than for the tropical latitude of just -17 degrees. But all this is moot. The flattie says the Sun is well *above* the disk of the Earth, at a constant altitude. In such a model, the Sun can never possibly set anywhere as seen from the plane surface of the disk! For example. Sun height above Earth: 3,000km. Observer at equator, on the solstice, at midnight. The Sun is directly over the equator, at the opposite side of the north pole. (This is true for both the flat and round Earth.) If we use the relation of 60nm/degree on the Earth's surface, the 180 degrees between observer and sub-solar point is 10,800km. For a Sun height of 3,000km, its angular altitude would then be Arctan(3,000 / 10,800) = 15.5 degrees And so for an equatorial location, on the solstice, at midnight, the flattard should find the Sun at due north, 15.5 degrees *above* the horizon. How does he reconcile the Sun's vertical plunge due west, and the soon-to-follow darkness? All this delving into Sun setting angles, and subsequent twilight shift in azimuth, is jumping too far ahead. The flatties have *first* to explain how a bright orb at a fixed height above a plane can ever bee seen to set below that plane. That simple geometric conundrum must be addressed by them before anything else can be considered.

You've got a cat! LOL. No tech is required to observe sunrises and sunsets. While there has to be some understanding of geometry, just as with the EQ mount, it's a slam dunk proof that the earth is a globe. I mean that mathematically. The highest standard of proof that there is. That is why Eratosthenes already knew that the earth was a sphere when he measured it. If he wasn't sure, he would simply have used three reference points.

Hey Wolfie. If the sun/moon moves as per the flat earth model, not only should their size change, but wouldn't the spacing also change? Shouldn't there be tighter increments as they move away from or towards the the vanishing points (like the old train track/telephone post one point perspective exercise)? If that's the case, shouldn't that then create the illusion of them speeding up and slowing down as it moves towards or away from the horizon?

and the constellations should get tighter and closer together. Were you looking for consistency in FE claims? At this point, they just claim astronomy is not a science (since it doesn't support their nonsense) and that you can't tell the shape of the world by the sky ... despite the fact it can be navigated accurately by celestial observations. FE is just self serving aberrant mentality.

Trying to understand this on the globe. Cute kid btw! looking at 7:25 Your videos are very well made and are clear to follow your logic. So much so I am trying to visually understand. So if I created a wire circle that represented the path of the sun (hula hoop even?) , and attempted to position it to be in over Australia or Tasmania, and make it where the sun moves left as it sets at the angle your child moved his finger... The hoop/ring would have to move over Antarctica if it kept going before coming back up. That places the earth at a severe tilt, and I am not sure Antarctica has a direct sun over it at any time? In fact I have never seen Antarctica video anywhere that shows the sun directly overhead (it must be somewhere at that tilt?). Does Australia or especially Tasmania have long days as does Alaska?

Nothing is dropping though its really just moving away sun moves along the uppermost convergent line. At the horizon/vanishing point, it continues along the same line. Because of the nature of a straight line, it necessarily follows the same path, but it's now literally "below" the horizon. And because the line the sun follows is always above eye level, because of divergence it's now below eye level, which therefore makes it impossible to see. Even more so because it's below the ground convergence line, and the ground is opaque. The sun "never" travels along the eye level line but due to perspective and convergence it appears to, also why we have beautiful red clouds the sun is actually a white light...it changes colour due to the gases in the atmosphere.. It's always on the line above eye level. Which is why it sets, rather than "disappears" depending where you are located, because the above eye level line continues on beyond the vanishing point, but because the lines all converged, it's now "below" eye level. Since you would have to be looking down below you to see something we know is above you, you can't see it.

+Dylan Slater, He is a very angry and jealous man, He puts on a public front as a reasonable guy but sends horrible bitter emails to people. Not just me, I have seen those he has sent to others. A real Jekyll and Hyde character so I am quite happy never to mention or hear from him again.

Flat earthers struggle with the geometry of the equatorial mount because they simply struggle with geometry on the whole as evidenced by them being flat earthers ;)

Robert Langford They have a model. A model of the globe that they ignorantly use to try to prove flat earth with. Pouring water on it to see if it sticks, or shining a light at to try to prove who knows what.
