If at any given time the sea swell plus the waves on top exceed your your viewpoint of 8 meters the ship will disappear from the bottom up. This is due to the the angle of view. Just a tiny amount of the waves being above your 8 meters has a huge effect on objects in the distance. Doubt this was actually due to the curve as he already shows there is about 1.5 meter difference in the sea level due to swell. So his actual height is (minus sea swell) is about 5 m and the objects in the distance are 1.5 meter lower. Only requiring 3.5 meter waves on top of the sea swell to align with his view point. This is easily the case here. The waves are massive out there in the zoomed in footage. ;)

My first 5000 hrs was in helicopters and not one minute was the aircraft under the control of a computer. I was fully awake the entire time. One thing about the aircraft this dude was flying is that it is flown by a computer except for take-offs and landings, for the most part. If this guy is legit and really thinks he is on a spinning ball going around the sun with planets named after gods of Babylon, I can't even imagine the level of awareness for that to happen although I suppose it could.
