Detective Yates is a cop with dignity in this episode. He doesn't book you for something so imaginary like a thought-crime. He needs you to have done the deed AND have evidence/witness testimony which supports the case. If Yates weren't racist and sexist on the job, then he could very well be a role model.

I'm white, my great grandmother was SURE that she was going to give birth to a boy 100+ years ago, so she never even thought about a girl name. When she gave birth to my grandma, she didn't even know what to call her. The nurse, who was a black woman, said the name Aloha Yolonda sounded good. I sold rocks on the playground in 3rd grade. Literal rocks. Quartz and other cool looking stuff I found in my driveway and around the yard. I was hustling kids out of their lunch money and made like $20 in one day. For context I was getting a $1/week allowance (though, not sure what I’d spend an allowance on in 3rd grade anyway) so I blew my own mind. Parents found out their kids were skipping lunch to buy my rocks, though, and I was shut down. 😂
