The reason why newer SP doesn't feel like old episodes (besides obvious nostalgia) is that they didn't spend every episode making social commentary back then. @ianscott8418 Жыл бұрын
I gotta disagree with that comparison. That Terrence and Phillip episode they made us sit through in the middle of that plot line was straight ass (even if it was intended that wayand the answer we got wasn’t worth it. I will agree though that 2016 was the worst year ever for South Park, but will also argue that the quality has begun to skyrocket again ever since the specials came out.
@tiredsmashbros Жыл бұрын
i also think why it hasn't been the usual wacky absurd one-off episodes dealing with one or two issues, the past recent years have mainly been focusing on one major plotline for an entire season+ than just the ordinary one episode (examples like tegridy farms and man-bear-pig). but since they've basically wrapped up and finished it with the last movie-like premiere (the streaming wars) they're just back to doing the way they normally do. maybe near the last remaining episodes be a short story to a plot for fun like they've done in the past. either way, happy the goofy one-off episodes are back to have a break from the constant major plot lines lmao.

I interpreted the separation of cupid and cartman in two ways: 1) the literal, face value interpretation was that, because it was Valentine's day, he had more power and could physically manifest himself. 2) my second interpretation, after thinking of what the episode was trying to tell us, was that at a certain point, ideas can separate themselves from us and become their own entity, with their own power. In the beginning, all Cupid Ye was doing was reinforcing Cartman's antisemitic values, but it was still Cartman. But as time went on, and those ideas spread and more and more people believed them, Cupid Ye became "free." He was no longer tied to Cartman, or "controlled" by him. He became his own entity, not needing to rely on Cartman exclusively to "do his bidding."

I wanted to hear others thoughts on this, but isn’t it odd that during the final school scene it seems as though they CAN see Cupid Ye, with Mackeys comment on “a large bee.” However, you see Cartman actually jumping out of the window of Tolkien’s house. I wonder if Cupid Ye is actually something existing in the universe, or just Cartmans mental health being crazy. Edit: just watched and yeah I see you pointed this out. I wonder if they have an official explanation or if it was just funny.
@geneveandersson Жыл бұрын
I think it makes sense to believe that this episode represents Cartmans mental health. Since we know now what Cartmans future ends up becoming, it's safe to assume this is that timeline playing out and that he's getting progressively worse. I mean even liane seems done with his bs at this point so it's already starting to go downhill for him.

10:21 Butters can go piss off for that one. They were due a good movie after the first one. Also for anyone going “But what about Chris Pratt’s voice acting”. Let me remind you that lore wise, Mario and Luigi were born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. So Chris Pratt’s Brooklyn accent for Mario is more canonical than a stereotypical Italian accent. Even Lou Albano and Danny Wells, who both are regarded by many to be the true voices of Mario and Luigi, used Brooklyn accents for the characters.

I would also like to add that as a band kid who plays saxophone, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Tweek (my personal favorite character) played the saxophone too. I sometimes forget the kids know how to play instruments.

So I think Cupid Ye is symbolic at the end of the episode. While they make references as if it's real, I take it as a representation of one aspect of Cartman's psychology which slowly infected the school with those thoughts, which we see coming to a head at one time, just like how when that kind of rumor/conspiracy spreads in real life they tend to build over time until one or two iconic figures finally express those faulty beliefs (in this case you could say it was Craig finding the desk set up bringing up the idea that others hold those thoughts and so he embraces them fully, cascading into the whole school doing it), at which point everyone who held them in secret becomes willing to express and embrace them as they're no longer "the only one". We see this in reality with the anit-vax conspiracy theory, as once one celebrity expressed support, thousands of idiots came out of the woodworks expressing their support for the conspiracy. A further note on Cupid Ye being representative, notice the prescription bottle. Cupid's name is clearly hand written on, as evident from the font change and color change for the name on the label. This is likely Cartman's way of rationalizing/imagining taking HIS meds without admitting to any fault of his own, similar to the twisting of the fishsticks joke writing in his head. It's likely a symbol for the ultra-discriminatory mindset Cartman has in older seasons as compared to his more tame and blindly selfish personality in the recent changes. IMO, the handwriting is similar to some (not all) of the handwriting in his journal from Fractured But Whole, but that's just my opinion, and I admit that it's not clear enough to be certain. South Park has a tendency to represent the surreal as real in an effort to exaggerate the situation for both comedy and relatability.

Writing a long ass comment only to make it nonsense by comparing people who are anti-mRNA treatment to anti-semites, while also thinking those people are actively anti-vaccination
@six-fingeredjimmy6977 Жыл бұрын
@Jeremiah Fyan Just because you can't understand something doesn't mean it's nonsense. The anti-semantic themes referenced here are founded in conspiracy, and are spread by the spreading of conspiracy. Just as the anti-vax movement is based on conspiracy and spread by the spreading of those conspiracies. Conspiracy and Hate often spread in similar fashions, as a lot of hate is based on conspiracy.

The reason for Jews in Hollywood is very similar to Jews in banking. Christianity had strict regulation on usury (making money by moving money) while Jews had less religious restrictions and were legally restricted from normal work. Combined with the fact that trades are typically patrilineal with a side order of nepotism and traditionally conservative spending habits in a few generations families acquire sizable amounts of capital. Corse actually pointing it out with reasons casts you with the same brush as the people who say it’s a conspiracy. In reality the difference between conspiracy and result is mere forethought. As for mid century German man proposing the movement of capital as instigating certain conflicts it’s just the result of someone with a problem being presented a scape goat that absolves them of responsibility. (Something people are fond of today)

I think that the show is trying to imply that Cartman and Cupid Me/Ye are the same entity, him shooting the arrows is probably just used as a metaphor for how hate spreads, like you said, and not something that's physically happening. Cupid Ye taking his meds is probably a metaphor for Cartman taking his own meds, as it seems that more and more Matt and Trey are trying to explore his mental health issues. Another thing that I find really interesting, by the way, is the moment when Cupid Ye jacks the car and crashes it, and when he turns back to normal and shoots his love arrows to cure people's hate. Those two scenes seem to hint that these things didn't actually happen in the show, and are more of a way that Cartman uses to cope and visualize his inner turmoils. Things fixing themselves when Cupid Ye takes his meds could be a subtle hint that things didn't exactly change around Cartman, just how he perceives things to be at that moment.

Cupid Ye and his arrows represent Tik Tok and how it controls peoples minds. Like look at the the hearts after the kids get hit with an arrow (they look to similar animations of hearts on tik tok after you like a post). I think that the show creators are saying Tik Tok is whats causing a lot of todays issues. Too much short content causes there to be conspiracies and misinformation. Also Tik Tok controls what you see on your feed and you have no control of what you hear on it. They represent that by Token telling cupid ye to leave him alone but having no control over what cupid ye is telling him.

My problem with the TikTok part wasn't the fact that it was hating on TikTok. My problem was that it felt well... cheaper than I would've imagined a show like South Park would cover it. Think of all the TikTok controversies you could think of: Life-threatening Challenges, the privacy issues, the Pink Sauce, the toll it's had on our youth's mental health. There's plenty of material right in front of them, and yet they chose the usual old route of "TikTok very cringe please laugh". Overall great episode, just thought I'd put my thoughts on that part.
