Things were crazy during that time period for sure. Up was down and down was up and there was propaganda coming at us from all directions to the point that all trust in the media dissipated. Made a lot of us realize that the truth is only the truth if the powers that be and their advertisers deem it as such. I'll never forget watching the NFL empty stadium games and seeing dozens of ads "Brought to you by Pfizer" during it all and the crazies who went around my block telling my family to get the jabs. One of my neighbors even offered to buy my wife and I donuts and a coffee if we went with her to get the shots. The same lady even invited us to a block party where masks and proof of vaccination was shown. Just completely bonkers in every way.

I tried my best to appreciate 2020. I felt like Cartman because I finally had an excuse to not see people. Work pretty much shut down so I did my best to appreciate the time with my 4 year old who I had to home school. And due to Covid we got to have to Thanksgiving at home. No traveling. I made a big dinner for the four of us and we got to stay home all day. It was magical.

So someone once did a psychological study on population reactions during pandemics throughout history. The TLDR is that people in masses tend to, under such circumstances, cut themselves off from what they perceive as different. Basically they go "us or them" mentality and separate themselves from foreigners, those acting different, et cetera, because they are unknown factors and could expose you to whatever it may be. So in other words, more so fuel to the fire (even if its only a spark) than an actual new issue.

Yeah when trump said it was a hoax it was all over from there. Making right wingers severely antagonize anyone who followed the regulations (i remember a whole week where poor teenage restaurant hosts were being assaulted by 40yo men ffs) and get off as being "one of the enlightened" while those who followed went through what you said. Vaccination special is also very good, it's the ending of season 24 i think. Maybe also worth a watch before you go to post COVID: the return of COVID . Less important than the pandemic special but you will miss out on some references when you haven't seen the vaccination special too. As always a great reaction!

With the direction Disney has taken in the last decade, I think South Park needs to do an episode where Mr. Mouse wasn't always a greedy, heartless bastard, representing the time in which Disney delighted families, and then set up a Plot Twist in which the current Mr. Mouse is just an imposter and killed the real Mr. Mouse, which is meant to represent the real magic Disney once had and was destroyed by what it has now.

The covid-related police scene is hilarious because it's pretty accurate. Not sure if anyone died of a gunshot wound and was counted as a covid death, but people who died in car accidents or falls were. A lot of the numbers were inflated by that kind of ridiculous reasoning.

I could totally deal with people having their own opinions about covid, that's fine and just part of life, the part of the pandemic that really gets to me is people telling families who lost family members to covid that they didn't actually die of covid and it's some conspiracy. I lost both my grandparents, and one of my aunts to covid, also my aunt was only 50 and she was healthy and fit with no pre existing conditions. I have literally had people tell me that I either didn't lose them, or I did but it wasn't covid and the doctors just lied to us. Imagine if you had a family member die of cancer and not 1 but lots of people would call you a liar or a sheep who doesn't actually know what killed them. It's ludicrous, infuriating, and extremely offensive, kind of makes you hate those kind of people, that's what really made me stop thinking of MAGA people as people with just different views from me to people who are just dumb selfish assholes with no respect for others and gullible enough to slurp up every conspiracy theory they hear.

Covid was put on as a contributing factor for deaths of people that had nothing to do with Covid. It might not have been like that for your family members, but the guidance from the cdc put out in 2020 talks about attributing dying from pneumonia to a Covid death and if you don’t know if they have Covid or not you can take a reasoned guess and throw it on the list.
