Matt and Trey’s video game parodies always land because they always come from a place of understanding and work outwards. They’re in on the joke and are able to mock it from that perspective of an insider without dunking on people for cheap laughs. It’s a level of respect you don’t really see from showrunners unless they’re themselves a part of the fandom and I just think that’s really neat. It’s part of the reason why I love the PS4 / Xbox One framing device used for the Black Friday trilogy as well. Sure, it’s exaggerated and silly, but they were actually paying attention to people having these conversations about upcoming systems and having to pick a side among their friend group.
