And yes, those scenes at the start of the episode is basically what living in America was like just post 9/11. In mid-to-late September, terrorists were mailing out anthrax-infected letters to politicians and journalists, killing 5 and badly infecting 17 more. Everyone were understandably living in constant fear of further bioweapon attacks, and especially anthrax was the big scary threat.

The Cartman/ bin Lasen scene pays homage to classic cartoons from back when they’d be shown at the movies. Such as Tom and Jerry and Looney Toons. These shows were used to brighten up spirits during WW2. We definitely needed it again when this episode aired.

The Looney Tunes homage was so unexpected. This episode was one of the first times I laughed really hard after 9-11 happened. I had just turned 18 and graduated high school. Everything just STOPPED. And people never talk about the fact that we didn’t know if something else was going to happen. I guess it’s history now, but when it is happening, it’s just life and it was really terrifying.

I know exactly what you mean. This was the first episode of South Park I ever saw. I wasn’t allowed to watch it when I was a kid. Then 9/11 happened. I was 13, and I didn’t fully understand what was going on, but I was scared as hell. I kept going to school and living life, but everything was suddenly completely different. My family, friends, neighbors, teachers, literally everyone I knew acted like zombies for weeks. I was an absolute wreck. But I vividly remember watching this episode when it came out, because my parents pretty much stopped caring what I watched on tv after 9/11 happened. And it was the first thing that made me laugh since that day.

The Afghani kids aren't speaking a made-up language, they got fluent farsi speakers Mohammad Babak and Naush Bout to voice them. You can see them credited in the voice cast list at 20:27. Having them just speak made-up nonsense would've kinda taken away from the fact that we're supposed to sympathize with them.

Yes every building every house had an American flag after 9/11 for about 6months and that was an amazing time to be an investor in flag companies. My mom was supposed to babysit a kid and he ended up in the nicer neighborhood full of retirees behind our apartment complex and started taking all the flags from everyone's yard.

(Which Osama Bin Laden was one of those individuals) because the soviet union ( communists) were trying to take over the middle east and Osama Bin laden chose to fight against the soviets because they were atheist and the US 🇺🇸 at the time in his eyes looked like the lesser of the 2 evils. Bit of insightful information that my senior year teacher told us, all anger comes from fear. Don't believe me reply with something that you get angry about and I can work backwards to figure out what the fear is that causes that anger. Do this trick with your angriest friend they will have a mental breakdown for a little bit but eventually they'll become a better person because of it.

I also meet one of the 9/11 hijackers before he would come to the Hardee's restaurant my mom worked at before school every day he bought me a kid's meal every day he left a tip for my mom and he would read me the comics in addition to just talking to me about life he was one of the nicest people I've ever met... He told me about him living at the local military base he told me about him getting flying lessons. Also there was a paint crew that came in and painted in the Twin Towers leading up to 911 and for some reason no rooms ever got new paint. (Seriously look into this it's pretty obvious that it was an inside job, obviously I can't verify that I met the guy who hijacked when the planes because well I don't have a photo of them I don't have access to the Hardee's security footage or anything like that but the rest of it you can verify.)

Actually considering the fact that Osama Bin Laden worked for the CIA or FBI I can't remember which one but he definitely work for one of those to United States federal government agencies, before becoming the leader of the Taliban ( a coup backed by the United States and actually designed by the United States considering its leader literally came from a United States intelligence agency that was having problems with the current leader which is why "we" created the Taliban in the first place) back to the point he was in the United States for a while he was the leader of the area and he actually was able to speak English before coming to work for the United States so clearly plenty of people in the Middle East no English just like plenty of people all over the world know English I mean once your country's been colonized and then either forced into it or you adopt TV start watching "I Love Lucy", you eventually pick it up
