Watch all 3 summits on the Three Sisters Trilogy:
• The Three Sisters Trilogy
In this video we summit the third tallest mountain in Oregon, the South Sister. Though it is tallest, it is the easiest of the Three Sisters. There is no technical climbing, the only difficulty is how long of an uphill hike it is. The hike from Devils Lake Trailhead is 12 mile round trip with almost 5000 feet elevation gain. The mountain is also very crowded because it is so accessible for all. I had a fun swim at about 8800 feet up, people thought I was crazy.

Hiked this 50 yrs ago and know what it looked like then. This clearly has many, many more visitors compared to 1972 but the overall beauty remains. This was the best video I watched out of 6. Thanks, it brought back many Good memories.

Thank you very much! I try to make the videos about the things people want to see. I have done one on almost every major Oregon peak if interested. Only one left for me is Jefferson! Hopefully this year.

“Unexpectedly be in the middle of a blizzard” And no tea kettle nearby. This is so far beyond my capacities. Absolutely incredible. Binge watching your channel shows me how unprepared I am to live in Oregon country. Absolutely gobsmacked at how much natural wonder is here.

@@MattCookOregon Middle Sister I think. The point of view you give us is totally my cup of tea, right up until the end when you jump off a rock wall onto a glacier, that made my stomach turn a bit. Some of that climb to the top looks like what I imagine another planet or the 🌙 moon to be like. I really appreciate the perspective because lord knows, I’ll never get up that mountain. A lot bigger than the Malvern hills in Worcestershire, England. That’s about 1400 ft, or 425 meters. That’s climb I can do.

Beautifully filmed and presented. What an insane view, but also really cool to see all the little details of the crater, lakes, etc all hiding up there, imperceptible to those of us who only view it from below. I'm no mountain climber but I could *almost* see doing this one...wouldn't mind seeing all those little details myself.

Hey Matt! Love your videos. I’m relocating to Oregon from Missouri soon and your videos have been super helpful researching hikes/summits in the state. I’m particularly excited to give south sister a try! Also love your use of music from botw and Skyrim :) fits perfectly

Welcome and thank you. I am a bit slow with videos lately but there are a lot of existing ones to see. South Sister is a beast. Even though its just a hike, long, steep, and very tall. At the moment it is looking like snow will be mostly gone early summer. That is unusual but nice to give a bigger hiking window.

Hello sir I attempted this hike and the first 1-2 miles through the forest absolutely smoked me. I was going slow, taking breaks, and getting passed by groups of people. Any tips?
@MattCookOregon
@MattCookOregon 2 ай бұрын
Everyones different so might depend on the situation. Best general advice is to be sure to hike uphill a few times a week. Find a local hike with hills, do that for a year and you will see huge benefits. I will say most of my summits involve very few breaks. Any breaks before summit are verey quick to change clothes or get a snack out of the pack.

I used a ton of botw music in videos last year. Zelda has always been a big inspiration to me. It is also easy to edit and cut with all the blank space. Favorite mountain? They are all awesome. Maybe mount Lanayru because it was my first big one. It was before having all the cold gear, a fun survival experience trying to summit with food and fires.
