South Sudan holds muted celebrations of it's 10th anniversary

The nation of South Sudan turns ten years old today, a day that should have been marked with the usual Pomp and Circumstance expected of such a milestone. But civil strife and wanton destruction of lives and property in the last few years has forced the 10 th Anniversary celebrations to be muted. Many in the world’s youngest republic feel there’s very little to celebrate. Jeff Koinange is in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, and tells us about a country still struggling to get back on its feet a decade after independence.

Jeff Koinange should really be ashamed for referring to S.Sudan as a "War-torn nation". When CNN called Kenya a hotbed of terror, we all protested even though terror was a popular occurrence in those days. Every Nation has its challenges, and our challenges don't define us. It is our strengths that do. S.Sudan may have her problems, and so is common in every 10 year old Nation's history. Jeff Koinange and RMS's Citizen Tv must apologise top Africa!

South Sudanese need to put all their energy and understanding to to work together to build their country. To bring a long term peace, south Sudanese need to adopt an American like style of government where the president and politicians are elected every four years. It can be improved through South Sudan democracy mixed with Americans style of government.

If you knew the history of Kenya, South Sudan and other countries in Africa and the world at large, you wouldn't have asked such a sarcastic question or comparing Juba roads with Kenya's Thika highway. Thika highway was not built in 1970s but recently. The Juba you see now won't be the same Juba in 10 years time. Be logical...to build a country is not a one day activity.

Our resources are our greatest 'curse ' ever bestowed upon us yet our resilience and strength make us unbreakable as the people .....South Sudan @jeff is not war-torn ...our are societies are intact ....we have a functioning government (though with challenges just like any other government ) ..civil war caused by many factors wasted our time and resources plus lives and so to the ordinary eye it seems we have made no progress which could be partially true but we shall overcome and have already overcame ....
