Snook are good eating fish! When I lived in tampa they were the prized species.

I have heard that, I just love catching them too much to ever keep one though. I will keep trout all day for ceviche though!

one morning at the Indian Point Pier at Portland Tx I reeled in a nice sized fish, and brought it to the surface, saw the tell-tale black line on the fish, right before he jumped off the line and was gone! the snook shook the hook!

I have actually seen you guys fishing my pier light before, I was sitting on my porch watching you guys catch trout out of my light on live shrimp. Do you guys just target any dock with a light or do you target certain ones? I'm trying to catch my first snook and I have been having a hard time finding one.

Underwater lights close to the dock are the best for snook. That is also where you will catch reds at night as well. Fishing the edges of the lights close to the dock is also a good way to catch some fat snook. The biggest factor would have to be if the snook are in your general location in the arroyo at that time of year.

Austin Jackson how many socks would you guys say you hit before catching a snook? That way I know how many to prepare for next time I'm fishing.

It all just depends. If the snook are not in the area then it will take a long time. You need to find the area they are in, then you can go catch a bunch. it usually doesn't take many docks if they are in the area.

The arroyo is absolutely full of them. only 1 out of every 10 snook you catch is a common snook in the arroyo. Oh and no, we pull live shrimp through the lights, but use TKOs or DOAs under docks so that we can skip them way up under. Also it makes it so that we can twitch the bait, making vibrations that the snook will feel and react to. Skipping docks works best during the day when there is tide movement. They sit behind the pilings in the shade out of the current waiting to ambush their prey.
