Thinking of going to Newton Stewart area for our wedding anniversary in late September this year any positive or negative thoughts on this would be helpful,travelling up from Leicestershire ...Beautiful video can you pre - order that weather at all...lol...

Late September could be problematic with the weather, autumn tends to come quickly with lots of rain, best weather is May to August BUT you might be okay, travel expecting rainy days though. The only other thing is shops tend to close after 5pm with only pubs left open although supermarkets (not many in the area) are open longer. Best to load up with a packed lunch and at times you may not have phone signal in the most rural parts. North of Newton Stewart is the Galloway Forest Park, lovely drive to New Galloway and loop around St John's Town. West is where the beaches are (in this video), Portpatrick, Sandhead and the Mull of Galloway cliffs, Stranraer Oyster Festival is mid-Sept. South of NS is Wigtown (Scotland's Book Town) and its national festival begins 27th Sept., and next door is the Bladnoch Whisky Distillery. A bit further south is Whithorn and Isle of Whithorn villages, Scotland's cradle of Christianity with relics dating back to 500AD. In all a great place to explore with its diverse beauty and history.
