The South of Scotland is often overlooked as all the tourists head for the highlands. If you want to avoid the crowds, it's definitely the destination to head for.

The scenery makes a pleasant road trip, and Scotland is rich with spectacular landscapes to savor. Watching your video proves that Scotland is picturesque and full of beautiful attractions to explore, like the Caerlaverock Castle.

Thanks for your comment Nick, I really appreciate it! Sailing is a lot easier than it looks! I really recommend it. If not, it's always nice to have a day on the water in a bigger boat, one that involves cocktails and sunbathing!

The people living on this route have my heartfelt sympathy. Get ready for litter, bad manners and clogged roads that used to be a pleasure to drive on and ugly campervans in every available layby ruining beautiful views. We moved to Northern Highland 10 years ago and have watched as the tourism on the nc500 with all its problems have taken a hold in what used to be a wonderful open wilderness. The creators of these routes should be ashamed of themselves. Just my 2 penneth, so there. Good luck locals, you wont realise what you had until its gone for ever. 😥
@AnAdventurousWorld4 жыл бұрын
I'm really sorry to hear you say this. Obviously there's a trade off between tourism and what that brings to the local economy, and maintaining the environment and a sense of authenticity. I know the Highlands are overcrowded, but hopefully new routes like the SWC300 will ease overtourism in certain parts of Scotland.

Hi there AW, where do you live?
@pamcullen5374 жыл бұрын
We are travelling around the SWcoast at the moment in a motorhome and I am so ashamed that as usual the few spoil it for the many. We wouldn’t dream of leaving a mark on any of the beautiful places we are visiting & get really annoyed at those who do. Please don’t think that all travelers are the same, we really appreciate the gorgeous views and folks we have met are so hospitable. We are boaters and have noticed the canals are becoming the same with ignorant people. Such a shame for all 💕🦆
@Ukmongoose34 жыл бұрын
Hi Pam, thanks for your reply. Its a tricky deal isn’t it. Caithness and Sutherland used to be a remote and beautiful land populated by locals. The roads were empty and the views and atmosphere truly unique in the UK. Now all the tourism has come, every view has been populated by huge and ugly white vans, although I am sure the people in them are very nice and have every right to be there. Everywhere is getting BUSY! The locals are being discouraged or even barred from their local bars as they are being turned into restaurants and they are accused of lowering the tone for the tourists. Strings of slow moving traffic clog the once easily ridden or driven highways. People dont know how to drive on singletrack and refuse to pull over. I could go on and on, but ultimately no one will really care! We moved to northern Sutherland 10 years ago and we’re now so sick of hearing the name NC500 that we are moving back to Yorkshire and truly looking forward to it. Lets face it, NC500 isn’t a very pretty name to hear all the time, is it?! But each to their own and this is only one mans opinion, nothing more. I hope you enjoy the trips and I wish you well. 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you feel the need to move but hope you find a lovely peaceful place. We promise not to disturb when heading back down south from Scotland. All the best 🦆💕
