Hey mate this is a good series which I enjoyed a lot. I did the same Melaleuca>South West Cape Circuit>Melaleuca trip (Clockwise ) myself in 2007. I have worked for PWS helping to manage this region for the last 20 years and I think it would be helpful if more people setting out to walk these remote areas would check out this series so as to make themselves aware of some of the hazards and conditions they will be faced with on their trip. PS. Can I say to anyone attempting this or any other remote walk in Tassie either in a group but especially on your own, PLEASE take an EPIRB not just an InReach. InReach are good for two way communications, but as shown in the video can be hard to get satellite connection in certain locations. Conditions can turn nasty very fast in SW Tasmania and an EPIRB, with its radio communication system is the best option in an emergency situation, just activate and wait for help to arrive.

I see snippets of rubbish in some shots which is disappointing but suspect washed up. Your shoes interest me. They look like sandshoes? Do they give you ankle support and are they waterproof?

The rubbish - however disappointing - is put near entrances/exits on the beach, so walkers can locate them. In some places, the piles are getting pretty big. It's mostly buoys, plastic bottles and nets/ropes. In between, there is no rubbish at all so that's good. My walking shoes are Hoka Mafate Speed 4. They're very sturdy trail runners, soft soles, and are low so no ankle support, but I don't feel like I need that really. They are light and dry quickly, so I can just walk through water and not care :) At camps I wear ultralight surf shoes.

@@hikingsolo Thanks for the response. Do you wear gaiters? I would be worried about snake strikes through the shoes also. I am surprised the Hoka's are not torn to bits by the cutting grass and vegetation.

@@chaosstate4491 In Tasmania I always wear sturdy gaiters (sea to summit) because of snakes, leeches and scrub. Don't worry too much about snakes, they're gone before you can see them. The Hoka's were great. I expected them to get completely destroyed but I could use the same pair again :)
