I remember Southall in 1971. The big Indian cinemas were thriving then, beautifully decorated. The main street was much brighter. It's still nice but a bit run down now.

As an Englishman, the part I found most annoying was seeing Punjabi written on that train station sign welcoming them to Southall (it doesn't matter if it's punjabi, arabic, Chinese, Russian btw). Yes, I did some research right after watching the video and it appears that Southall train station is the only train station with such text on a sign, it doesn't appear on any other station sign. Southall has a big Indian community which I have nothing against, but if it was predominately Islamic based, I would have issue with it. The point I'm making is where are the welcoming signs in Polish or Portuguese as England has a huge amount of people living and working here from those countries, what's so special that some local councillor decided to single out one community only and stick 2 fingers up to the rest, regardless if it's Arabic or Punjabi, it's a matter where other languages/cultures are excluded and this particular instance of this sign is not politically correct in my view, it's dedicated to some small minority of people, just because a load of minority's congregate there alienating everyone else, it should just be in English only.........That's how I feel about that sign.

I'm an Indian and my relatives settled in England two decades back....they are nothing like those shown in the video. They are doctors and well integrated into British societies. Also they wear Indian dresses only during some cultural function or festival time. They speak fluent British English and speak Hindi mostly at home. Even they despise these people who are of rigid minds and do not adopt local culture and customs. Eventhough They have their own boundaries, as they are vegetarian but has adapted most of British culture and do tell us about good things such as mannerism and social discipline

I've seen many south Indians settled in Delhi speaking really good Hindi, or seen Muslim people selling puja items at Hindu pilgrim place, it's not always taboo. It is adopting to local culture and customs. I'm not sure where you're staying now but multicultural means mix of various cultures, not that to follow only one culture. Also any cultural aspects is always gradually introduced and adapted in a society, it cannot be forced. Whether being in India or outside, if one wants to settle for life in a certain society, they ought to learn to adapts themselves with local, and can definitely add some of their own!

Why do people in the comments keep mentioning Britain when the video highlights London? On the whole Britain is almost 90% white. London on the other hand is one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world, this is what that looks like. If you want to understand why it is so then treat yourself to some history of the country, specifically empire. That'll account for the large south Asian presence shown here.
