People will be conflicted about the old man cause on one side, he was trying to help a pregnant woman get a seat, on the other side he made a scene that made everybody feel uncomfortable. As someone who used to live in China, English is a kind of flex for certain types of people, almost like a status symbol. Come on. It's a language, FFS: a tool to allow you to communicate with people who may not speak yours. Speaking it means you've learned a skill. That's great (and useful), but doesn't mean you're any better than someone who chose to learn a different skill instead.

He has every right to be frustrated. An old man being the only person to offer a seat to a pregnant woman in a full carriage.
@kikiwa20236 жыл бұрын
1. Pregnant women herself said that no one found a pregnant woman is here, and many times if the pregnant woman is not obvious, generally think that she is just fat, to avoid embarrassment. 2. The old man found out, gave his seat to the pregnant woman, and the pregnant woman refused. 3. The old man has used words such as "fuck" times to show his good qualities. 4. Let the Chinese speak English,"show you English". There has no discussion about the seat. Please note that if you come to China,please speak Chinese. 5. I don’t know if this old man is coming to China on the first day. I’ve lived in Shenzhen,China for 5 years. When pregnant women get on the bus or take the subway,people will give seats. The old man considers himself as a moral police officer or defines the Chinese in advance?😃

Basically the old man was angry at those young men pretended not seeing the pregnant woman. He blamed this in English to none. Suddenly he didn’t expect this young man cursed him back in English too and jeered he was not that good in English. The exchange started from this point. The young man should be ashamed of being educated. The old man might not have too much education, but he knew what is the right thing to do and he intended to give up his seat to that pregnant women.

Grandpa is a little too harsh, I agree. However, guys like him (the young lad) really pisses me off. They act like they know it all, when they are spoiled as hell and know no respect. "Your grammar is bad", dude, is that even the point right now? If you have lived in the US (probably to study abroad on mommy money), then you should know damn well there are many Asian minorities that has started their stories here as immigrants knowing no English. Grandpa must've lived in US for several years to get a decent command in English like that.

Yijun Hu I think the only reason grammar was brought up was because the old man was arrogantly speaking broken english without the need to speak the language.In almost every sentence the old man said , There was no relevant information or argument given. The statement "Show your english" is clearly confrontational and shows the old man trying to fluster the guy . "This is beijing the capital of china" this statement also does not have any use in the argument and does not promote discussion. The guy did have some respect issues but that does not discount the fact that the old man arrogantly tried to speak in english to fluster the guy without really having a legit argument.

Yijun Hu ikr the argument at hand was over giving a pregnant woman a seat. Then all of a sudden the young guy wants to insult people's grammars. Lmao first off he's young so it means he immigrated to America or was born there cause his parents immigrated there so ofc his grammar is "better" compared to an 70 year old senior citizen who just learned English at age 40-50. I wish that young guy would immigrate to Vietnam and when he gets in an altecation with a local a Vietnamese can tell him his Viet grammar is bad. Secondly, arguing about grammar is when the opponent lost their argument. Nothing substantial for the young guy to say other than "old man your grammar is bad." Geez how insecurely obnoxious and heinously pathetic attempt at diverting the topic at hand
@kleh47726 жыл бұрын
I agree with Yijun Hu, there are many naive youngsters out there. I am a native of Beijing, China, and I know my country and my city very well, inside out to be honest. People who think that China is full of people booming about nationalism should go to China for themselves. I go back to China very regularly, usually every 1-3 years to visit relatives, and I rarely see such a seen on public transport. Although I have been living in the UK for the past 18 years (not born there, but in Beijing), I still know the laws and rules back in China. People who have never been to China or visited China should NEVER EVER PREDICT THAT JUST BECAUSE THEY SAY ALL THIS CRAP AND FAKE THINGS ON THE INTERNET AND KZbin, THEY THINK THAT EVERYWHERE IN CHINA IT'S LIKE THAT, BECAUSE IT'S NOT. ALL I WANT TO SAY TO THESE PEOPLE IS: "GO THERE FOR YOURSELF, AND YOU WILL SEE THAT IN REALITY AND IN ACTUAL FACT AND IN HINES SIGHT, IT IS NOT A COUNTRY COVERED WITH NATIONALISTS. PERHAPS I SHOULD VIDEOTAPE THE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT MY CLAIMS WHEN I RETURN TO CHINA NEXT YEAR (I won't go this year because I have relatives coming over to the UK and I am busy moving houses). YOU CAN NEVER 100% TRUST OR BELIEVE THE INTERNET, BECAUSE THERE ARE FAKE THINGS ON THERE. I COULD JUST GET A BUNCH OF MY FRIENDS TO PRETEND TO ACT LIKE NATIONALIST RIOTERS AND POST IT ON KZbin AND CONVINCE VIEWERS ITS REAL WHEN IT'S JUST CLICKBATE AND FAKE, AND JUST A SKIT AND NOT REAL LIFT, BUT WOULD RATHER NOT, I'M JUST GIVING YOU A SCENARIO WHERE THIS CAN HAPPEN TOO OFTEN. OBVIOUSLY THIS VIDEO IS REAL, BUT WHAT I AM SAYING IS WHAT KZbin SEARCHES SHOW ON CHINA NATIONALISM. The misconception from people like James Porter is that they fake their understanding through their naive behaviour and think they know the law in China very well. I certainly know the rules and laws inside out. In China, they have a law that is similar to Thailand where you cannot mock or say rude things against the government (the Monarch in Thailand), cause you will be sentenced to a prison term of 5 years minimum. Plus, in bog cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, there are stickers and newly introduced coloured seats on public transport that tell passengers/young people to give up their seat for pregnant women, elderly and disabled/handicapped. This does not apply to smaller cities such as Xi'an and Chengdu- I may not have been or visited cities such those I have named (I have visited Xi'an, Guangzhou and Beijing), but I have friends and relatives living in those cities who tell me the rules in advance. It is never the case that the Chinese dislike westerners, but instead its the fact they can't look down at and have repugnance on westerns because of their bad habits. Asians just believe there country is strict- of course Singapore is strict. What the old man is in fact saying then he shouts "This is Beijing, the capital of China" and "Look, you learn something" is in fact a rhetoric indicating to the young lad that he should behave himself and follow the laws in Beijing, not in his home country. Rhetoric speech like this is used in China and can easily be misinterpreted as nationalism. Yes, I love my country and I am patriotic about it, but the end story is that you have to understand how Asians act before you comment. I do not curse and I believe cursing is wrong. I was brought up in a strict household of teachers and a military officer from the People's Liberation Army (Chinese Military basically), and as a military officer my paternal grandfather represented China during the cultural revolution when Mao Zedong was the Chairman. Of course my family disagreed to some of Mao's reforms, but we weren't as stupid as some of the other families in China who clearly don't know what the moral of 祸从口出 means. The moral of 祸从口出 means that you may cause trouble by what you say out of your mouth (if directly translated it means trouble/misfortune comes out of your mouth), and I was brought up with this moral and a few others. I would never express my views or curse or shout in the public because it would definitely be a big embarrassment to me and my family and my country as many people of president Xi's generation still recognise and know who my grandfather and his family is. It is clear that the young lad does not understand what 祸从口出 means and why he should obey it. The old man should not have cursed and racially abused the kid in the end by telling his to "go back to the US". He is clearly arrogant in many ways. None of my family members would shout like that in the public, even if I didn't notice. In fact, in China, Beijing especially, most buses have the driver and a ticket lady/man, every time I do see someone not giving up their seat for the elderly, handicapped/disabled or pregnant women, I do see the ticket person warning people either by speaking in a microphone or speaking on the top his/her voice across the bus so everyone can here her/him when it's overcrowded. None of this and the scene would have happened if everyone can just read up the Chinese laws and obey them. My cousin from my father side (who currently lives and was born in the US) is just like that young lad and would definitely correct our grandfather (his father is my father's brother) in all ways, and our grandfather would shout at him. I truly believe that CBA and some BBC just don't know that in the Chinese culture the elders should be obeyed at ALL times because they are older and have more experience as they are what we call in Chinese as "过来人"meaning that they are people who have lived longer than our parents and ourselves and that they have accumulated a lot more knowledge and experience than us youngsters.

There’s not much one can do when a pregnant woman declined. I mean a lot of people are pretty tired and just want to sit down and keep to themselves. I’m not saying don’t say anything to the pregnant woman but not much can be done if she says no and some people saw that she said no to the old man. They probably thought “she’ll say no to me anyways. It’s polite but it might agitate the woman.” Just because the woman is pregnant doesn’t mean she can’t stand for a little while is probably some people’s’ thoughts after hearing her say no. I might if people keeps asking her questions like “hey miss. Do you need to take a seat? You can take mine.” Then she’ll get annoyed, I mean who wouldn’t? She already declined, why wouldn’t she decline again till she just gives up and sits down angrily. Then she’ll be seen as a bad guy. Like “why did she do that?” Yes, some people probably didn’t notice her. I mean there’s a lot of people on that metro. You’re not always going to notice every single thing on a person. You’ll probably stare at your phone till your stop comes.

@@thearcherofjustice1492 I am from Singapore and people here often give up seats to people in need too. However, it should not become a blame game where people are publicly shamed for not giving up seats as most of the time we will not know the true story as bystanders. 1. Not everyone with a tummy is pregnant. Some ladies who are not pregnant may feel offended if offered seat because they are fat. 2. Not everyone who looks normal is normal. A normal looking person that you try to shame because you think he does not give up his seat could have a hidden injury to his back or feet which requires him to sit. He or she could also be having a bad migraine or simply not feeling well. This requires better understanding of issues like these by individuals rather than a crazed need for social justice just like the old man in the video. Therefore pregnant ladies or people in need should not feel too bad asking for seats. Pregnant ladies are protecting their kids from injuries.
