Malaysia enthroned 59-year-old Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah as the nation’s new king. He replaces the previous monarch, Sultan Muhammad V, who shocked the country in December 2018 with his sudden abdication after ascending to the throne two years ago. His historic step-down followed reports that he had married a Russian former beauty queen.
Malaysia’s nine Islamic royalty rotate the throne every five years. The new king, from the central state of Pahang, was selected by a “Conference of Rulers” in January 2019. The sport-loving Sultan Abdullah holds a number of positions on sporting bodies, including the council of the world football governing body Fifa and the Asian Hockey Association.

actually malaysia have nine king......each state have their own king.......every five years,they will rotate to be "yang di pertuan Agong".....or simply say as king of Malaysia.....why this happen????...because a long time ago.....each state are independent,after british colonization.....all state unite together with borneo island which is sabah,sarawak and also singapore to form new country call as Malaysia.....but,after few years,singapore going out from union and form new country......nowdays,malaysia consist of fourteen state which nine state have king....other five state dont have king is Sabah, Sarawak,(which i just mention earlier from borneo island)......Penang(former capital of malaysia during colonization so dont controlled by king), Federation of Kl (malaysia capital so dont have king], Malacca ( monarcy dont exist anymore because all royal families killed during ducth colonization).....and what interesting is......all nine king have their own power like to appoint the chief minister of their state ........."yang di pertuan Agong" or Malaysia king have power to appoint the Prime Minester of Malaysia....to call for election so he can choose who will be prime minester through citezen election.....and all military power is under his control....

Maharaja, Emperor, Sultans, Kings all different names from different countries. In Malaysia most states are ruled by their respective Sultans, and every 5 years each Sultan will rotate to be the Yang DiPertuan Agong which is translated to King or Supreme Ruler in English speaking countries.

@Jacky Phantom pardon me. Malaysia are build by our 9 Malay Kings and elders. Therefor our 1st languange is Malay. 2nd languange can be anything. But english is also important as the first languange. Singapore or Singapura originally is a Malay land before the british empire forces Johore-Singapore King to sold it, politically singapore are seens as multi racial country and the chinese are being the head with english as 1st languange but constitutionally Malay is the 1st languange not english. @@zackzul5884 They dont have 9 Kings. A sultan and King are distinctly different monarchal ranks. The difference is a King is styled His Majestey where as Princes and Sultans etc are styled 'His Royal Highness' Seccondly a King is officially titled as either 1. (King that still is the monarch) HM The King of insert place name here or 2. (King that abdicated and still holds his King title but isnt monarh [see the king of Spains dad]) HM King insert Real name here of - insert place name here- Once a King of Malaysia finishes his term he is no longer the king plus also relinquishes his titles and styles of being a king and goes back to having the exact same title as before, this is because he is still the sultan of where ever he was. In conclusion Malaysia only has 1 King but who that king is constantly rotates and Malaysia has 9 Royal families/ Sultans. Also Malaysia actually has 7 sultans and the two others have a different title but of the same prestige as Sultan.
