Workers in Vietnam’s “incense village” have been busy preparing fragrant sticks for Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday, which starts February 1, 2022. Sales have dropped so far by 30 per cent in 2022, compared to the same period last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The country’s ongoing measures to curb the spread of coronavirus have greatly affected businesses throughout the country, disrupting supply chains and resulting in severe losses. But as the New Year holiday approaches, the incense-making village of Quang Phu Cau, located on the outskirts of the capital Hanoi, have been gearing up for better prospects in the upcoming new year.

@@orientsecretgardens8292 Of course we didn't create it since it belongs to the Chinese. The Vietnamese people celebrate the Vietnamese New Year and it is part of our culture with very different customs. Perhaps you should also learn some more history about the origin of the holiday. The Lunar New Year was a celebration for a new season cycle of crops and hoping for a fruitful harvest year. It is basically enjoyed by all cultures with an agricultural background and it had spread across Asia for a long time, although each culture has their own way of celebrating it. Since Vietnam was invaded and dominated by the Chinese for more than a thousand years, it is obvious that there should be some influences, however, we Vietnamese still have our very distinctive customs of celebrating it, and the same applies to any other culture celebrating the lunar new year. The lunar calendar (or lunisolar calendar) that we used today is originated from China, but that doesn't mean the holiday we have is originated from China. Maybe should we all start calling January 1 the Roman New Year from the origin of the calendar?

Yes, cheep incenses mainly use chemicals for smell and color so that's bad for health, more expensive ones use natural food coloring. The one in the vid is cheep kind

Of course if you use cheap incences then when burning, they will release toxic chemicals and air like CO2. But if you use quality ones then it's not that bad.

Here in Finland, burning of incence and fake money would be almost a punishable crime, in these times of global warming. We have a saying, "you live in a country as the country is" - that means roughly that if you have a specific manner or custom, you live by it and dont make changes because somebody from outside demands it. Keep on burning :)

wow! This is so sad, especially coming from my favourite country Finland- one of the richest countries in the world with the best educational system. Yet I can't believe there would be someone there be so ignorant! Affluent countries are more 'eco-friendly' since they have the technology and resources to fight pollution, while developing countries like Vietnam does not. Developing countries are often exploited by wealthy nations, being forced to trade raw materials, impoverishing our own lands to stay afloat. Also this is not only just a specific manner or a custom, but rather the livelihood of thousands, it is ignorant and disrespectful for you to make mockery of it for the sake of the 'environment'. Please educate yourself, if you don't have a broad understanding from all sides. PLEASE SHUT UP:))

@@Loppoz56 It's how Vietnamese celebrate Chinese New Year, or you can call it Vietnamese style Chinese New Year, but its cultural root is Chinese. Chinese New year is one of many other Chinese traditional festivals which are based on Chinese ancient calendar, ancient Chinese invented Chinese accent calendar not Vietnamese, so it's called Chinese New Year. Vietnamese celebrate Chinese New Year because of Chinese influence considering the tight relationship between China and Vietnam in history.
