Great instructional video, very specific and tells you the "why" for certain steps. I watched this video so many times because this is how my baby likes to be held. Your video is the best out there; I have also been watching your other wrap videos over and over. I'm excited to start wrap carrying because he's getting a bit too heavy to hold upright for an hour after feeding (need to do this because he's a preemie and still vomits at 1.5 months adjusted). I have quite a few colorful wraps and a ring sling so please wish me luck! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise online!!! I hope you get more views - maybe update the search terms? PS - I will post an update on our progress soon. I know this will help me a lot. I just hope he likes it too.

Many thanks for your kind feedback. I'm very pleased my videos have been helpful to you. The carry position shown in this particular video is fairly niche - used primarily for babies following surgery, when they have a cast fitted, for parents in wheelchairs, or other exceptional circumstances. This is the reason why it's not has as many views as my tummy-to-tummy carry position videos. I hope you have lots of lovely cuddles with your little one in your various slings!

Just csme across this thanks. The side the wrap goes js rhe opposite to another tutorial i saw. Baby keeps sliding down into a horizontal with the other tutorial but keen to get the position correct as we have a kiddo with colic/gas issues ( hard to tell as it seems to vary) and the m position being fairly snug tummy to tummy and requiring active manipulation of a not placid child to feed the legs in just escalates the screaming! Hoping this position is safe enough ( worried about the spine til she grows out thr reflux issue) during this interim phase as other than slippage it ws a lot calmer and the baby had use of hands and we could see the airways!

Hi my baby is 2mo and holds her head up but still needs support. She has flat head on her back left side what side do suggest I put her on? So that there is no pressure on the back left of her head? Thanks!

Thank you for your message. I would recommend using the carrier in the standard, tummy-to-tummy position rather than a sideways hold. Providing baby is held securely, with a gentle curve to their spine, no additional support for the head is required (this is the case in any ergonomic carrier). My video for tummy-to-tummy position in a stretchy wrap shows how to support baby ergonomically, so no additional head support is needed. They can choose to turn their head in either direction or you can gently move their head to face one way or the other. My video link for tummy-to-tummy carry with the Izmi wrap is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJbNp3-ZhrqFm5o I also have videos demoing this with other brands of stretchy wrap and also with a wide range of buckle carriers. If you go to the 'newborn playlist' on my channel you'll see them all demoed.

Is it safe to use this position for a healthy 8 weeks old who is already interested in things around and tummy to tummy doesn't allow that ? he doesn't hold the head yet confidently

Hi! Thanks for your question. Tummy-to-tummy is generally recommended, unless there's a medical or other reason where an alternative position is needed. Have you watched my video on giving baby more visibility in the carrier? Flipping the shoulders on both sides (and adding a rolled muslin behind the neck) gives baby the ability to see around still. Link is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmS2lWiojMioisk

@@laurabarker5237 Hello! So yes, this position could be helpful for your little one. Ensure you follow all the safety information given in the video and - if possible - it's worth seeing a local Babywearing Consultant if you're at all unsure about using your wrap. The back will have a cross of material, plus the fabric wrapping around your waist. Apologies - I usually show the back (am pretty sure I do in my other wrap demo videos) but must have forgotten to do so in this one. If you look at my video here you'll see the back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJbNp3-ZhrqFm5o

Thanks for your question. As explained in the video, this position is for exceptional circumstances where a tummy-to-tummy position is not possible. It is not possible to cause hip issues for a baby with healthy hips. If there is an issue with baby's hips then whatever advice has been given by their health care practitioner should be followed.

Oh dear! This is very much a carrier for a specific need (e.g. after baby has had surgery to their tummy or, for whatever reason, a tummy-to-tummy carry isn't possible). Seated sideways is a harder position to achieve. If you're trying again, take your time - there's no prize for doing it quickly. You can stop after each stage/movement for fabric - have a little walk around with baby held - then progress to the next when you're ready. This will keep you calm and help to prevent you getting hot.

Does the wrap have to be stretchy to do this ? Can I use a regular moby wrap ?
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your question. The Moby wrap is a brand of stretchy wrap. It stretches along with width of the fabric, but not along the length. This means you have to be much more accurate with getting the tightening “just right”. The Izmi Baby wrap stretches along the length as well as along the width. So yes, this carry is possible with a Moby wrap (and also with woven wraps, which are non-stretchy) but I’d recommend seeing a Babywearing Consultant (either in person or online) to run through the safety aspects to ensure baby is carried safely. I offer video calls, if there isn’t a Babywearing Consultant locally to you.

@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Stretchy wraps are very much designed for the early days and tend to be most suited to the first 6 months or so. Seated sideways is possible with an older child in other, more supportive carriers, if circumstances mean a tummy-to-tummy, hip or back carry is not possible. I have a couple of videos on my KZbin channel - have a look at the Special Circumstances playlist. If you need to use this sort of position I recommend seeing a Babywearing Consultant to check positioning etc. I offer video-call appointments if you don’t have a Consultant locally.

@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 11 ай бұрын
Generally, an upright, tummy-to-tummy position is recommended for carrying a newborn in a stretchy wrap. This is likely to be the easiest position to achieve safely and comfortably for both you and baby. If for any reason a tummy to tummy position is not suitable - e.g surgery to baby's stomach, if baby has severe reflux and finds tummy to tummy positions uncomfortable, if parent is in a wheelchair - this position is an option. The same safety checks apply as for when baby is awake: Are they held securely? Do they have clear airways? Is chin raised off baby's chest? If you're at all unsure about using the wrap in this way, it's worth seeing your local babywearing consultant (or booking a video call with me if you don't have one locally). Hope that helps!

Thank you. Do you have a video where from this seating position you can place them upright? At work I have to have my baby mostly all day in a carrier. I want to give her a brake from this position to a different right away without taking her out of it. Also helps me to nurse her then burp her. Thank you.

This is likely to be the most comfortable position for you and baby while you work. There is also a video on here showing how to use your carrier as a feeding aid. If you go to “Izmi Playlist” on my channel you’ll see all the demo videos. As I said above though, the seated sideways position is very much for specific circumstances where a tummy-to-tummy position is not suitable

What age does this hold go up to? And can it be achieved in any stretchy wrap? I have one from the Scottish baby box and a boba one
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. As I say in the video, an upright, tummy-to-tummy position is the easiest position to achieve safely, so is recommended first, unless there are additional reasons who a seated sideways position is necessary. Yes, this carry position can be achieved in any baby wrap, providing the wrap is tightened sufficiently snuggly to ensure baby is well supported and has clear airways - so chin isn't tucked onto chest or head flopping backwards. The Boba wrap is super-stretchy, so will need to be much more snug than the Baby Box wrap, which only stretches across the width. If using the Baby Box wrap this will take a little more practice to get the tightness 'right' to ensure it's secure enough to support baby, without being too tight to fit them in. However, it's likely to be a little more supportive - as baby gets heavier. If you're at all unsure about carrying baby this way, there are lots of Babywearing Consultants in Scotland who can help assist, so you feel confident in carrying baby in this, or any other position. Stretchy wraps are generally most useful for the first 4-6 months. Your baby's weight, developmental stage and also the necessity to use this specific position are all factors in how long baby can be carried in this position. Generally it's most useful in instances where baby has had abdominal surgery, or there are other reasons why tummy-to-tummy is not possible. I hope that helps.

It will always be easier to achieve a tummy-to-tummy position safely than a seated sideways position. The seated sideways position is very much is for very specific circumstances, where a tummy to tummy position is not possible. With a 4 month old you are likely to find something a little more supportive than a stretchy wrap may work better. If you need any assistance with this or any other position, it's worth getting in touch with a Babywearing Consultant who can talk you through it in person 🙂

@Roamy - Babywearing Consultant - South East Slings thank you! I think I'll have to contact a consultant cause my little one is so strong for his age and leans out to one side putting all his weight on one tiny point of my shoulder in tummy to tummy. He's at the everything is so interesting stage! No matter the wrap, in fact strapped carriers provide the extra challenge of he wont stop trying to eat the strap of the side he's looking out of🤦‍♀️So i desperately need alternatives, might even be time for back wearing🤔
