Lots of barnacles etc. Pan along end of pier - slipway into sea (presumably for lifeboat). Similar shots of legs. VS of people on platform waiting for train. Train pulls in. Travel shots from front of train looking through track to water below. Pull up to look forward. CU of driver in control of train. More travel shots along pier. VS of entrance to Southend Pier and flags flying above entrance. VS of pier from beach. Pan along pier as it stretches out to sea. Repeat of pan as train travels along the pier. MS of deck chairs piled. VS of buildings at end of pier. More shots of deck chairs. MS People in deck chairs.

I remember the pier like that. I loved it.

So do I!!! Left in 1977 aged 7 but exactly how I remember it....Good times had every Summer...and back then, it seemed you got a "proper" Summer EVERY YEAR between May and September....Remember the plagues of Ladybirds in the Summer of '76 which absolutely covered EVERYTHING!!!

Wonderful that the Council have kept the old girl going: Fair play to them. I’m in Norfolk now but hoping to see the lovely new trains soon. Incredible that they’ve used the old trains as seating areas! Southend-on- Sea - still the place to be!
