Find your videos really useful. What lead would you recommend to start training a 12 week old Staffie to walk on a lead? Some say a slip lead can damage their trachea due to their age. Would you wait until they’re older to use any lead, and instead focus on recall in the meantime?

My American bulldog cross is about the same size roughly ... But I've had to registered her as xl bully ?....wish there was somewhere I could take her to see if she does fall in to the band breed,, my vets told me the guv won't accept there opinion on whether or not she falls in that category, so frustrating cos my dog loosing out on so much I.e she can't play with a ball no more in the park as she can't pick it up with the muzzle on...hopefully dog rescue centers follow that one in Taunton that are checking your dog for you to see if they are xl bullies or not.

Do a DNA test if you want to know.

I feel your pain, we have a xl cross staff , from day one he was in training classes, doing basic training, focus training, scent work, also man trailing, very well socialized with other dogs, then the ban came in, the muzzle deffo set him right back, regards just going for normal walks, its quite hard to give his reward (treat) fast enough for positive behaviour with the muzzle on, he has taken to the muzzle quite well in the end, has we made it a positive thing, he also loved to play ball which we cant do in public now. We still do all his training classes, he just completed his Scent work class with flying colours and is moving up to the next class. Have you thought about hiring a secure private field, we take our two and a few of theirs friend meet us there, costs us £5.50 for half hour for 3 dogs £10 for an hour £1.50 per extra dog, so really cheap if people chip in on that cost. I'm really glad we chose to put him on the register, so many peoples dogs have been taken away just on how they look, some come back after weeks on end in kennels, some don't ever come back, some dogs are being returned in a right state, the state of some of the ones I've seen returned is disgusting, if you kept your dog in that state you would be in trouble for animal cruelty. Are the government taking into account what the Taunton rescue centre has deemed what type of dog people own? Has far as I'm aware I dont think the process has been set up to remove your dog from the register yet, I think but don't quote me on this, but Im also sure they would want to do a assessment on your dog when you try to get it off the register, not sure if that would be done at home or they take the dog away.

@@blueflare3848 They wont even look at DNA tests, they purely go on how the dog looks, aka of type, this why so many dogs are falling fowl to the new law.

Xl bullies have 5-7 different types of breeds in them so a dna test wouldn't define what she is, that's the reason the government has banned xl bully TYPES because they can't ban a dog that's not a breed

Hi, thankyou for your response , there is a private field where I am that's £5 for half hour, they have special insurance cover for xl bullies so I will be taking her twice a week for 1 hr at a time...she's taken to her muzzle very well and my dog trainer said to me that she has the most fantastic temperament, I've just hade her spayed 2 weeks ago so now she's fully legal, I see people with same size and type of dog as mine but with no muzzle or on a lead in the park and it made me wonder if I jumped the gun a bit registering her all be it I've been told by so many people I have done the right thing ensuring her safety, that dog rescue center in Taunton is just helping people that are unsure of the dogs they have but I'm not sure if there word is final regarding the government, the father of my dog is an American bulldog and her mum is a cross between a American Staffordshire terrier and boxer...she's 35 kilos at 18 months old so she might get a little bit bigger but not much more, there is a lady I know who used to breed xl bullies until ban came out and looking at my photos of my dog said to me she don't look like an xl....I would drive to Taunton with my dog but its 8hr return drive and includes a ferry lol, hopefully more dog centers start helping people in this matter, Thanks again for your input...tc
