Southern 630 & 4501: Armistice Day Doubleheader

On the Eleventh hour, of the Eleventh day, of the Eleventh month of 1918, the armistice between the German Empire and the Entente powers went into effect, effectively ending the First World War. Exactly a century later, two steam locomotives that had served during the war lead an excursion from Chattanooga, Tennessee into Northwest Georgia.
With the US entry into the war in 1917, the Southern Railway came under the control of the United States Railroad Administration, a government agency created with the aim of streamlining railroad operations to aid wartime production.

Under the right conditions and in the right locations, the 630 is kinda like "AWOOOOOOOOOO...", then taking a deep breath, and "...WOOOOOOOOOOO..." Lol, sorry, I just love the associations that I'm having with it when it whistles, or rather howls like a gigantic wolf or something.

Wow...the shot from 10:00 to 10:30 is perfect. No signs of 21st century, or even late 20th century. That could be used as an establishing shot in a period piece film.

Great video as usual.My wife and I rode the June doubleheader to Summerville and had a great trip.I used to ride TVRMs Autumn Leaf Specials back in the 70s to Crossville and a spring excursion in 1974 to Huntsville Alabama.I was only 13 at the time and a couple of my buddies went along (just us kids!).Boy how times have changed!I won't let my grandkids out of my sight today

I managed to get a ticket to one the photo charters with 611 & 475 (dressed as 382) before they sold out, so I'll definitely be up there this fall. I might try to squeeze in a side-trip to see 425 if I can. Let me know when you're coming down south, I don't know what my schedule will allow me to do but maybe we'll meet trackside.

@@AdmiralColdhead I was told by TVRM that it was a B&M 6 chime variant of a Nathan 6 chime. The Central of Georgia whistle wasn’t the only 6 chime that 630 wore. In 2011, 630 typically wore a privately owned L&N 6 chime. From late 2012 to early 2016, 630 had the Central of Georgia 6 chime. As of 2018, even though it sounded similar, it wasn’t the CoG 6 chime. And I know this because it sounded absolutely nothing like it did whenever 630 was on the mainline. The last time that 630 wore the CoG 6 chime was in 2019.
