I assume you whipped the join of the mono into the hollow braid? And insert the mono further into the braid maybe? Hard to know without seeing your join, sometimes just bad luck! Persistence paid off anyway!
@joshjameskiwibushman2 жыл бұрын
Mono pushed 2 metres into braid, finished with a few half hitches and a PR knot. It's caught 3 other bluefin this season and a heap of albacore and been sweet. I think just bad luck. Will push it 5 m into the hollow core next time
@adammcgeorge35382 жыл бұрын
@@joshjameskiwibushman they way you did it sounds good to me brother, I’m surprised it failed. I sometimes glue the braid to the mono along the splice too, and then I whip both joins and glue the whipping. Bad luck, but there were plenty of fish biting, so you are all good. It sucks when gear fails and you only get the one bite :(
@adammcgeorge35382 жыл бұрын
@@joshjameskiwibushman I sometimes take the mono in and out of the hollow braid a few times at the start and then do the big insert length, I sometimes feel like the braid does not grab and hold the mono as tight as I want it too. You can also insert the mono 6-12 inches from the end of the braid and use the 6-12in of hollow braid to tie to the mono, which I think is what you were talking about with your PR knot. Depending on drag pressure, an fg or sc knot is a good alternative for non hollow braid to mono, but if you have the hollow braid then splicing is more than 100%…but it still sucks when it fails. Better luck next time brother!

Just outside where I live, we have Atlantic Bluefin Tuna swimming not far from the coast, but the rules for fishing them here are so extremely strict and it is extremely difficult for us sportfishers getting the permission to fish them. Even for catch and release. Only very few get such a permission and they have to go through some proper loopholes to get it. And they can only catch very few fish each season. It is really annoying to have them swimming just outside my doorstep and not being allowed to fish for them. I find it totally stupid when commercial fishing boats can fish for them, but I can't even catch and release one. Much of the tunas they catch here are 200-400 kilo, but they can get bigger than that here.
