Couldn't believe it when I saw the notice! Biscuits and chocolate gravy, scrambled eggs, and sausage was the traditional Christmas morning breakfast when my kids were little. Carried it on a few times with g-kids, but now everyone is scattered. I ain't makin' it for just myself. Everybody thinks I'm crazy when I say, "chocolate gravy". Thank you for this post, Kent, and a very Merry and Blessed Christmas to all!

Over 20 years ago, Mom and Dad moved into a new house after their old burned. Dad made the best biscuits for our Thanksgiving that year. He also made a batch for his New Years Eve celebration in that new house. A few weeks later, he had a stroke and never cooked again. I will try that recipe out the next time my siblings get together. I told my wife about your cook books and I got all three for Christmas!!!!! Thank you for making that memory come alive today. Merry Christmas!!!!!

My grandmother made the BEST chocolate gravy and biscuits. She has gone home to be with the LORD now, and her chocolate gravy is sorely missed. No recipe exists, because she never really had it written down. She made it from memory, and added a "dash of this" and "pinch of that".

My grandma did the same thing with a cookie recipe…and a spaghetti sauce recipe. I don’t remember it being tomato-based - it seemed to be mostly ground beef and was kinda sweet.

My Mamaw (great grandmother) made great chocolate gravy. She went home to be with the Lord 25 years ago, at the age of 95. She taught my Dad, who taught my sister before he was called home in 2016. What a blessing our families are. Merry Christmas and blessings for a wonderful 2025 from East Tennessee.

I'm 70 years old. About 60 years ago my granny showed me how to make chocolate gravy. The way she made it was 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa, 1/4 cup flour, and about a 1/3 cup of water. Stir over medium heat until it thickens. Serve over homemade biscuits. I made some about a week ago. Reminds me of my sweet granny. Thanks Kent and Shannon. God bless you both.

I have made this every Christmas morning for my family for last 3 decades, my mom made it before that and my Grandma who was from Oklahoma made it before her. My kids would skin me alive if I ever missed a Christmas without it. Our recipe is slightly different 2/3 c flour, 2/3 c sugar, 1/3 c cocoa powder, 1/2 stick unsalted butter 2 c boiling water but seems every family has their own variation. Made me so happy to see you sharing this recipe. The most fun is when a yankee shows up for breakfast, turns up their nose when you tell them what it is and then can't get enough after they taste it. Merry Christmas to you and your wife, love your show, your faith and your food.

My grandparents moved to Northern California during the Great Dust Bowl/Exodus from Oklahoma (Tulsa). Every Saturday, my grandma always made Sourdough Biscuits with Soppin' Sauce. The Soppin' Sauce was a Chocolate Gravy that grandma would make using bars of baking chocolate, butter and heavy cream. I swear it could have been fudge if she used less cream and boil it a bit longer. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you Mr. Rollins, your lovely bride Shannon and your helpers! It was very nice of you to celebrate the Beag's memory with extra bites for your crew of taste testers - showed a lot of class.. One of the best presents your family of viewers received was the knowledge that you are well, that your heart procedure worked and you are still able to dance. Now, I have to tell you that I'm 76 years old, have lived in southeast Texas all my life and have been eating biscuits and gravy -- white gravy like I've seen you make countless times -- for decades but I have NEVER heard of chocolate gravy over biscuits. I guess I'll have to try it but I've gotta tell you that It sure looks strange to these old eyes. Have a wonderful remainder of 2024 and I'll see you next week.
