as short lived as they were and having left behind no actual proper album or even a series of 45's, they are still one of my all time favorite bands.

Some great bands came out of this lot..Ian hooking up with Billy for death cult and the other lads starting up getting the fear..and then into a circle....s.d.c.were great when I seen em...zig zag club and support to theatre of hate...Ian meeting Billy perhaps...

Billy Duffy really that dude! That fuckin riff near the end of false faces is mind melting. Stuck in my head the minute I heard it. Musta ran it back 3-4 times

@@chestnut-u9c from interviews I've watched the lead singer (ian astbury) was already in a band and when Billy finally joined him they started the southern death cult. They pretty much are the cult cause they've stuck together since.

This is not Billy on guitar. SDC were a completely different band. The guitar player is Dave 'Buzz' Burroughs

Billy Duffy was never in Southern Death Cult, Ian left and formed Death Cult with Billy.

@@Thirdfish ah! So it was the death cult when he got involved. I was confused even after that interview I saw. Either way that riff is god like.

Saw this lot supporting the Joke at Lyceum. Seems like a hundred years ago. Great band, great drummer Akky. Pity they couldn't stay as they were.

WoW , Sothern Death Cult.Opening for Killing Joke I didn't get to see them till I was like 11 for Sonic Temple as the Cult @ West Palm Beach Auditorium ....been Backstage a couple of Times, Billy Duffy is really nice. Ian I didn't bother because his Vice is the Band - Aids .. ;€

Still like SDC, Death Cult, and The Cult - Dreamtime LP. The session versions of these songs do not sound as good as the studio versions released on vinyl, which is a first.

Interesting comment, seeing as four of the tracks on the posthumous SDC album are from the Peel sessions.

@@stupidlogic2987 I should've mentioned that. But thanks for pointing that out. I may be also referring to the 12" Singles they released . And i did say studio versions, meaning the tracks specifically recorded for release on records.

@@888pinkhippo Yep I find myself going back and listening to old stuff, something magic about it, bands like early New Model Army, Skeletal Family, Ghost Dance and even Dead or Alive before they became a pop product for Stock Aitkin and Waterman, their early gothy stuff is great, check them all out. Skeletal Family's Promised Land is a great track.

Southern Death Cult/Death Cult were intrinsically connected, especially live or bootleg cassettes. The connection stopped there.

I totally agree from the late eighties Ian Astbury went to America & changed his accent within that year. He turned up on some music show with "Love removal machine" a shower of shit with the guitar intro exactly like " Start me up" from the Rolling Stones...I find it hard to believe that Billy Duffy ran with that considering how good he'd actually been.
