There were twenty eight locomotives in the GS-4 class. Only one the 4449 is left.All others were cut up for scrap in the late 1950's.Beautiful model too.

There were 69 GS class locomotives built, with GS-1-'s through GS6's (4400-4469). Cotton Belt's 4-8-4's became SP's GS-7's and GS-8's (which were 4470-4488). The Daylight GS-4's were called Daylights because they made the daytime (daylight) runs between LA and San Francisco between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Eventually the Daylight trains ran all the way to Portland.

Incredible amount of dedication for design, work, and finalization of this project. Wow! I wonder just how large is the park or property that can support these two train tracks? Really another wonderful video Chuck! Thanks!!!

I love watching these scale trains and traction engines,the detailing and machining work that must go into the making of each and every part I find amazing,a true showing of craftsmanship in my book..... Big ups and well done to each and every member of these clubs who spend the time and hours building these wonderful engines and bring back a piece of steam history........

Very nice video Chuck! I got a chuckle when I seen my crutches off to the side when Dan pulled out of the bays.

I like that GS4. it looks A LOT like my favorite train on the planet, the Sp Daylight 4449, which is also a GS4. I want one of those so bad!

5:45 You probably didn't realize it at the time, but you captured a major mechanical defect that would be easy to correct, assuming you know it's happening.. The crosshead guide is loose! As the piston travels while under pressure, you can see the play in the bolts as the end moves up and down almost a half inch! If left uncorrected it will tear up the packing and the cylinder on that side.

+Sam Houston Thank God for that. The incessant, unrelenting racket of bells and horns on American railways completely obliterates the stack talk.
@NightOwlModeler8 жыл бұрын
The bell on the real engines were mounted down below the front of the smokebox, and were an air-ringer version. Not exactly easy to see. I agree it's nice not to hear the whistle and bell too much. NOM
