Southern Pacific Tunnel Motors in the Mojave - The Trona Railway

Deep in the Mojave Desert in Southern California is a 30.5 mile shortline like no other. The Trona Railway (TRC) has always fascinated railfans with their unique locomotive roster. While the Baldwin diesel locomotives are long gone, they still roster a few ex-Southern Pacific tunnel motors that are used on a daily basis. The crew works the morning in Trona at the plant, and build their train for the afternoon. They then make the 30 mile run, mostly up-grade, to Searles where they interchange with UP on the Lone Pine Branch. That is where we catch up with the crew as they prepare for their journey back to Trona with the loaded coal cut.

Hope it doesn't disappoint! There's footage of the SP tunnel motors leading back down. Sadly, despite chasing from Trona up to Searles, much of the recordings were not usable due to technical issues.
