I had no choice but to split the vote.

@notashroom Жыл бұрын
I pretty much agree with you, as someone who has lived in GA, SC, and NC (currently), but spent 40-some years in Atlanta metro. Atlanta is so diverse, with a lot of international folks (which is great, you have to go a long, long way to beat the food choices there) and people from all over the US, that it has lost a good bit of its Southern flavor and you hardly meet lifelong Atlantans anymore. Oklahoma I was surprised it was even here. I think of it like with Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri. They do have some drawl in parts, but it's more Midwest than Southern. Though I'll usually leave out Texas too, because as someone said, Houston east is pretty Southern, but there's a lot more to the state, and like the blonde said, they think of themselves as Texans first. For most Southern, I think Mississippi, Alabama, and rural Georgia are all as Southern as anyone could want, but Atlanta pulls Georgia down a notch in the rankings. I think having a boundary with Southern neighbors on all sides helps preserve it.
@coynichols351711 ай бұрын
Only a small portion of the Southern Plains reaches down into Oklahoma and it’s on the far western side. Most of western Oklahoma is prairie. Prairie is a mix of trees and open land. This area I’m speaking of is big cattle ranch country in Oklahoma and there are also a lot of cotton farms in this area. It’s not the plains. The only portion of Oklahoma that you can call the plains is the panhandle and the northwest tip of Oklahoma. Even that feels more like the Southwest than the plains. About two thirds of Oklahoma is heavily wooded with tree covered hills and 5 lush mountain ranges, rivers, and a lot of lakes and water. The southeastern part of Oklahoma has swamps and alligators. Plains states don’t have alligators. Texas has way more ‘plains’ than Oklahoma and most, nor do I, consider Texas to be a plains state. In the plains you get tumbleweed. Funny thing, I never saw a tumbleweed until I moved to eastern Colorado for a couple months as a kid. I haven’t seen any since. 😂

As a Texan allow me to clarify. East Texas is quite southern. Then you have N Texas,the panhandle and Oklahoma which are great plains. The Hill country in the center which is unique unto itself. Possibly the most "texan" if you ignore Austin the capital. W Texas goes with the western, NM and Ariz. outlook. And south Texas, strongest area of Mexican culture. Together we create the most diverse yet most uniquely cohesive subculture in the US.

Plus it's the state with that flew the most flags. Think about it, 1st it was Spanish, then Mexican, then Texan, then American, then Confederate, & went back to American. So all in all, they flew 6 flags.

As a person born and raised in Mississippi, I can confirm it is the most Southern state. Alabama is to the South as Taco Bell is to Mexican Food. It's got the superficial cliches of Southern culture without the real substance. If the South was a museum (and in many ways, it is), Alabama would be the gift shop, and Mississippi would be the exhibit that everyone drove 5 hours to see. The literature, the music, the history, the food, the hospitality, the storytelling, the fascinating characters, and of course, the skeletons in the closet... Mississippi has it all. Florida is the least Southern state, followed closely by Texas. (As the Texas tourism ads used to say, it's "a whole nother country," and I would be quite happy to let them run off and be one.)

Mississippi hands down most southern state. Magnolias, history, MS River, MS delta, humid, hot, beautiful, old

Last time I went to Mississippi, I really liked Vicksburg, want to see more of it. 🙂

Everything mentioned there reminds me of Florida, sounds just like Florida, even the gator-dwelling river and delta sounds like the gator-dwelling Everglades delta and long rivers of Florida. And ya better bite ya tongue before you completely drawl out a "bless ya heart!".

My husband is a Dawg alum... and it's Auburn. Even more than Florida. Although the World's Biggest Cocktail Party (UF/UGA game Halloween weekend) is something to see.

I live in Georgia too and Atlanta is overrated by far! I'm convinced people that hang-out in Atlanta are not even from Georgia.

As a Georgian, we don’t like Florida, New York, and sometimes, Atlanta 😂😂😂. Atlanta people are different from the rest of us Georgians.

As a South Floridian not from Miami, we don't like North FL, New York, and Atlanta either. Y'all must really think we are your opposite; Florida even got way more pine trees and Spanish moss than palm trees, we ain't "The Tropical Yankee Beaches", and if you still believe so, then bless your heart.

I live in TN originally from FL, I've been to most of these states. I can tell you, the panhandle of Florida is the most Southern place I've ever seen.

Just remember that Florida is mostly pine trees plus we got everything South Carolina does: pollen season, big bugs, flooding, tiny hills, bipolar weather, tornadoes, hurricanes, lovebug season, NFL rivalry, high school football rivalry, college football rivalry, random urban swamps, bogs, and creeks anywhere, biscuits over bagels, and to top it all off, cheerleaders that wear way too baggy clothes for the sake of modesty. And I'm describing South FL. Bless y'all hearts if you think central and south Fl ain't southern.
