Jewell Family Farm

Ingredients
1 1/2 C. Sugar
1 C butter softened
1 egg
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
2 1/2 C. Flour ( plain)
3 1/2 tsp. Baking powder * correction it is baking powder not soda
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix everything in the order of the recipe.
Pinch off dough about the size of a walnut or large marble. Roll into a ball and flatten slightly.
You may also use a 1 inch cookie scooper.
Place on a pan with parchment paper or an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350° or until edges are lightly golden, around 12 minutes.

I really like the idea of pulling apart the dough ,rolling it and then patting them down rather than putting them on a floured surface and cutting them out like biscuits, or refrigerating the dough for a little bit to be able to cut them into slices 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

danish dough whisks are awesome for any kind of dough or batter. mixes together quickly. I've used them for cookies, bread, cake, and quick bread batters.

What's with tea cakes...........Southern hospitality and I heard from older folks that they were created from making a cake but without all of the effort and time 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Favorite that my Mama Coots made but none of the family kept the recipe. She used self rising flour in hers. Sometimes she got fancy and added the lemon extract just as you described :)

Brings back a lot of memories. My Grandma made them for us all the time growing up. No one got the recipe but we talk about the cookies. We lost her last year at 101 yrs young.Going to bring back a special family tradition. Thanks!

I see that you didn’t include butter milk or can cream. Some people place the dough in the fridge over night, for two hours. It looks like the size of the Jack ball.
