I'm a fan of both for me I give a slight edge to TXSU and my only reason is that they never played a song from a previous game in this 5th quarter. Both bands put on a musical clinic and you starting to hear the difference between the two more now than ever! Great job on the content!

If you’re a lover of music, you will understand It depends on what the band is trying to achieve if there are trying to achieve a louder tuba section then that’s one thing but if they want a fuller tuba section, Numbers definitely will help. Not sure if you are familiar with Home Theater, but I used to think if someone had one subwoofer versus someone that had four subwoofers that the bass would be that much louder and it can be but once you properly tune the system, the bass is just sitting there much fatter and fuller and it sounds so good, so I guess it just depends on what you’re looking for. But even with all of that said, they definitely sound way more than 12 tubas. Some people just exaggerate…lol

While I do agree it’s not about power in general sense it’s funny that when SU outpowers someone is not about power but if someone (which is rarely)out powers, Southern, it’s SU got blown out… I guess whichever is a disadvantage to SU people roll with. And it’s also worth noting it’s not like these other bands are not trying to blow the bell off of the horn. It’s just so happens because of arrangements and size SU usually comes out on top in that department…at least when the power is called for

Great battle. SU trumpets had a lot of fumbles, TXSU had fumbles as well. However, SU has like a million trumpets soooo, they tend to slide thinking we can’t hear lol! Both bands were really good tho. I give it to TXSU this year tho.

@@WattsArrangements watching your whole assessment I did notice on several occasions where I would hear things that were mishaps with Texas Southern, that you didn’t note on the video. You would say “OK then” and keep it moving and sometimes nothing at all.

@@sufall96 if I stopped the video on every mishap this video would be 2 hours long I can't do that to y'all but even with removing all mishaps it became clarity over power. SU used power the entire time when they didn't need to which made some of the music jumble up TXSU didn't go full on power they understood that they cannot by any means out power SU so most of the music was more attention to detail.

I have SU by a edge , considering they have 70% freshmen and they're coming along I'm proud of the progression. Now as a former juke tuba player some of those players need to open up! I feel that's by design to just provide bottom instead of just letting them be their own unit. But I'm still proud of em! Close battle and great battle. I'm loving the progression of ocean under BROTHER B. Keep going.

So I see the common excuse here is that The Jukebox had more power and stamina simply because they had numbers. But the same people claims that Jukebox (West) TxSU doesn't have any horn holders so this makes them somehow superior. So I got a count of brass from both bands. May be off by an instrument or two. Trombones: Jukebox 32 Ocean 24 Euphos: Jukebox 20 Ocean 18 Mellos: Jukebox 22 Ocean 14 Trumpets: Jukebox 48 Ocean 24 So where's this huge difference in brass vs the sound both bands put out throughout the game? SU has 8 more bones and 8 more mellos and 20 more trumpets We're separated by only 2 in the eupho category. This kills that size excuse because you claim you had no horn holders and The Jukebox has many of them. Then explain the wattage difference? Because the numbers are closer than you claim.

@@cinemuh well I never said nothing about the size difference but understand this. When you have big numbers in certain sections things can slip through the cracks and people can get away with doing things that may go unheard to the untrained ear. Not saying SU is doing this but you can see that the trumpet section is not as disciplined as they used to be. It seems like they don't take this truly seriously because the mistakes are things that you cover in sectionals. They are blatantly getting out of character and trying to overly play just to say our notes are louder (the reason only 5-7 trumpet players turn to TXSU) That gesture will make people want to pay close attention even more because you feel like you gotta prove something so I'm like let me see what you trying to prove.

I'll go a step further and say that there's a lack of leadership by the section leaders, band captain and on up the chain to the directors. How can 5 directors sit in front of that band week after week and not address this? My take on the numbers issue is that this problem happens in smaller sections as well. I pointed out this several times to you by TxSU. So this loud vs sound good/better debate is suspect. Some constantly claim that all the Jukebox does is play loud, but then turn around and say that our bass horns doesn't sound like they should. Ok, should they be "loud" all the time, or play the bass line of the song? Can't have it both ways. Same with our mellos. Yall have so many, but they are not loud for their size. Again, be loud all the time or play the part within the band? I notice this is the case when we over power bands, their fans need to find some excuse and it's either all y'all do is play loud, or certain sections of your band isn't loud enough to match their size. Big difference in writing technique that some don't appreciate. The Jukebox prides itself on its big brassy sound. Yes, we display dynamics often as well, but normally our mellos have to cut through the full band without out the band backing off. TxSU does a lot of spot writing for different sections to stand out, outside of the solo or melody. Their mellows are often playing alone and not having to cut through. Same for trombones, so it sounds as if they are so powerful for their size. So the results of this is why the Jukebox's band, not sections is always louder than most would want. That's us. It's who we've always been. Take it or leave it.

@@WattsArrangements Let me add this: Some say we need more drums, we need to feature our drummers more. Not who we are. Our drummers get their shine at differenttimes. But our drum section setup is built to our Big Brassy Sound needs. We'll never commit to an overbearing drum sound where you have to strain to hear the music over the percussions. It's like our drummers are our drum set. This is all we need for our band to be a unit. Not to take up much more of your time, but to make this point ff to the 2 ten mark and focus on just on our drum section's role while playing this song for the doll's routine and you'll get exactly what I'm saying.
