Hi Andrew. Thanks for the great Video. We've slept in the bothy the night before you've been there. Cheers from Germany from Axel and Manuela.

Ah that's right it was Hogmanay and I was jealous I never got an invite! and the stag do was at Over Phawhope that's right ... am gonna go re-watch both videos just to remind me, memory is starting to go in my old age. Part 2 going up tonight in the twilight hours.

Enjoyed the first part! I'm going back to the SUW for my third attempt this year. In 2010 I was forced off injured at Bargrennan. In 2016 equipment failure convinced me to quit at St.John's Town of Dalry. There's a right annoying boggy bit just over the hill from Dalry, I ripped my rucky raincover to shreds hanging off a barbed wire fence trying to avoid falling into the bog.

Oldstag the problem with the Southern Upland way is that it's too long and not very interesting. I think the best way to complete it is in smaller stages. I know another guy who attempted to walk the whole thing this year he was so determined but in the end he gave up at Moffat on the 7th day. The rainy weather and endless boggy areas don't help. If I were you I'd do 1 week at a time and take a break inbetween. or even split it into 4 separate trips. I think I know the fence you are on about lol I was extra careful with the barb wire

Aye man, 4 hours sleep at Brattleburn bothy due to a social (which I happily took part in) and D&G 1st Scout group waking up at 6am, convinced me the 20 mile to Overpawhope bothy was going to be a very long and sore struggle in the rain on the 7th day, I just went home to eat my food cravings. Although nearly 2 weeks later and my knee is still sore, I might have had to give up around Lauder anyway. I backed tracked at Loch Trool to pitch at the old camp site. The lush green grass was the best pitch on that section. OldStag72, I will also make a 3rd attempt at some point but I will definitely pencil in a rest day around Moffat. When I had lunch at the WhiteLagen there was some MBA folk and a guy with his son staying after fishing, It was them that brought the coal. Made a massive difference to wood. The place was toastie.

I know the bit too, saw some shreds on the barbwire. Managed it okay thanks to my Gandalf style walking staff :)

the 7 stanes giant axe head.the txd is supposed to be an ancient Irish Poem by Amergin. It is called The Mystery. I am the wind which breathes upon the sea, I am the wave of the ocean, I am the murmur of the billows, I am the ox of the seven combats, I am the vulture upon the rocks, I am a beam of the sun, I am the fairest of plants, I am a wild boar in valor, I am a salmon in the water, I am a lake in the plain, I am a word of science, I am the point of the lance of battle, I am the God who created in the head the fire. Who is it who throws light into the meeting on the mountain? Who announces the ages of the moon? Who teaches the place where couches the sun? (If not I)
