Schizothorax taliensis is a fish species endemic to the highlands of Asia that mainly lives in Erhai Lake today in southwest China's Yunnan Province. The dark stripe across their bellies looks like a gaping gash, hence the Chinese moniker "cloven belly fish." The cold-water fish travels against the current and heads for the upper reaches of Erhai Lake to lay its eggs in the shallows. Watch this episode to learn more about the species.
