As someone said a you tuber did a better job than most professional documentarians in covering a subject. Also if English is your second language you would never know it. Well believe it or not there's quite a bit more, are entire High School went there, around 250 of us students went there, and in one of the buildings all 250 of us carved our names throughout the place, but for some reason the tour guides forget to show or mention this, I never understood why😏

Those tombs and monuments were built for the absolute elite of the era while their populations were slaving off in the fields. The money used to do so probably represented an obscenely high percentage of the local GDP. We should be very happy that developped countries have not reproduced this.

The Nabataean Kingdom is one of the oldest Arab kingdoms that extended in the northwest of the Arabian Peninsula and the south of the Levant to the Mediterranean coast, and trade routes flourished in it across the Arabian Peninsula. And a side note, King Aretas is the Greek pronunciation for Haritha, and my brother's name is Haritha

Awesome place, have been 3 times, the first time we camped in Wadi Rum, then trekked through the desert and entered Petra at the top of the the mountain visiting the monastery first, then descending down through the valley of Petra right through to the treasury. After that we climbed up to High Places, a staggering view awaits those who do the climb. 😊

Petra is one of the best memories of my travels. Unfortunately, due to time constraint, we did not have a chance to see the other tombs far from the Treasury. It was a long, tiring walk to the Treasury but worth our time & effort. Thanks for showing us the vast complex of Petra.

Ditto I went on the Holy Land pilgrimage and spent less than 1 hour after we reached the Treasury and wander by foot further inland saw a bit. I have to come back and spend the whole day in Petra

Thank you for showing more of the city than just the Treasury. I'm tired of people saying "this is Petra!" with a shot of that building as if it's the only part of the whole place worth looking at. The Treasury is awesome, but it shouldn't be considered the only wonder involved in the making of such a complicated place where such truly inspired designs for water storage and so many different types of construction are featured. There is a lot of genius going on in this place, some truly impressive accomplishments, and people always boil it down to the one structure, so again, thank you for showing how much more there is there. My brother got to go to Petra when he was in Jordan briefly in the Navy, and I'm still mad that he got to see it and I didn't LOL

Yes they discovered another level. But if you stand in front of the Treasury and look inside there is not much to see. Basically a shallow empty space. But standing in front you can look down and see the newly discovered level that is still being excavated. I was there in November 2018.

Been there. There isnt anything inside but I suspect there's something more to that city. Petra is hige and only a small portion has been excavated. It was a wonderful trip. There's more to it than the Treasury though. There are Bedouins that watch over the valley on top of the cliffs.

People of janubia/Nubians or now of Morden day countries like Sudan, southern Egypt, people of Axum that modern day Ethiopians who have similar rock carvings, Eritreans and others Labourers from India. The Romans didn't do shit, most of the things were done by the black Africans before the mixed breads of western Europeans who metamorphosed to be Arabs...

If you admire this , then you must visit Kailash Temple in Aurangabad, India . The whole temple is carved out of a rock from top to bottom. It’s a jaw dropping engineering marvel , even to this date , and it is more than 1000 years old.

Another great video Manuel. I especially liked the part about the arch at the entry way. I never heard about that before. Btw...why were the men shoveling sand/dirt on the main road in Petra? Also, I would have loved to have heard more about the water aqueduct system; how it worked and how all the different parts connected to create drinkable water in the middle of a desert. Do any of them still work, like a few aqueducts do throughout the ancient Roman empire and in the city of Rome, itself?

I had the good fortune to visit Petra many years ago. If you find yourself in Israel or Jordan it's a must see place. Don't go in the summer though; it's brutally hot. Petra was an important caravan stop on trade routes across the region and died out because over time those routes changed leaving Petra without a reason for being
