The 9 concrete footings near the tracks were footings for a large conveyor system to bet the raw materials to make the concrete. They would offload from railcars on a siding and move the ce ment materials up to the old structure you found first. PLEASE NOTE, the railroad IS ACTIVE. It is part of the Hiwassee River Rail Adventure. Trains can run at ANY TIME.Please be safe around our tracks. (R.J. Duncan: Lead Conductor-Hiwassee River Railroad)

Thank you for that information Robert! At some point in my filming I did point out that this was an active Railway. Unfortunately it didn’t make it into the final production. I will make sure to include important information like that in the future!

Very nice! I always enjoy "almost forgotten" history. The generation that lived in McFarland is probably long gone. Thank you for posting this!

We’ve driven by that concrete structure several times and never knew what it was. Thanks for the history lesson.

Our little town has so much history. I enjoy taking the roads less traveled as well. In my free time when i am at home in ducktown. In not all over the country working for the Railroad. I did not know about this place though. Although it is right down the road from my house. Thank you for showing me a new trail section

I was 100yd from that spot on the river at the end Saturday and never knew it! Kinda pressed for time having a late start. Ducktown is about 100mi from the house. I rode up by lost creek campground, through Reliance and Cooper gap. Love that area man. We'll be back soon. Glad I found this video, thanks for making it!

Very good video. My friends have taken me fishing there a few times. We usually fish around the rapids where you first go down to the railroad tracks. There are some big fish in there but it is worth going for the scenery. We usually wave at people on the train when it goes by.

Thank you! I usually run into people fishing back there. I have honestly never seen the train go through.

love love love! This is so cool. Fascinating history and interesting old structures. Pretty scenery. Thanks for sharing this. I'd love to go see it. Had no idea it existed. You find some awesome stuff.

Thanks! It’s a very neat place to visit if you ever have the chance! Just be careful around the railroad tracks. They are still active.

You are welcome. I sure will. BTW.. I found some links to old maps online that might be of interest to you. Let me know and I'll send you the links. It shows where these old communities used to be and where the buildings were. You are probably already aware and using them. Have a great weekend.

Excellent video. Road out there was a bit scary as it looked like a good dropoff on one side. Well done! Very informative

Thank you Arnie! It does get pretty steep on the side at times. It's a well maintained service road though. Most any vehicle can make it out there with no issues.

So is this another mountain community eliminated when the government exercised "imminent domain?" (Like the Sylco Settlement and the Old Dutch Settlement on the south side of the Ocoee River?) Or only a temporary workers village?

Do you happen to know how to get to the old cemetery?

Yes been there several times. One the same service road you keep going. Once you pass the power house turn off on the right. It’s about another 2 miles on the left. It’s kinda in a curve of the service road.
