The Grumpy Gardener's Guide to Awesome Lawn Care

I was told by a local nursery-Fairfax county in Virginia to water in the evening from mid August until early October when we generally all stop watering and depend on fall rains for watering our lawns. He said fungus stops growing when night time temps go below 65 degrees. Is this true/good lawn watering advice?
