Just remember that getting married doesn’t need to be elaborate or expensive. My husband and I were married in a church, had a cake and punch reception at his aunt and uncle’s house, went to dinner with our friends at TGIFridays where everyone paid their own way, and then went home to our apartment. And spent $0. (Thank you to his aunt and uncle for the gift of a very simple reception). That was 33 years ago, and it’s worked out pretty well if I do say so myself. Weddings have gotten out of hand with everyone trying to one up everyone else with reality TV style performances. My husband and I started out together not trying to impress anyone else. My advice is to start the way you mean to go on by it being just the two of you building what you have together. I don’t think young people should start out their life together with the huge expense of a wedding, and I don’t recommend the expense for their parents either. I’m a Southerner, and if this gets my “Southern Card” revoked then so be it.

My niece got married 2 or 3 years ago. She asked my sister to be her flower girl. My sister, Julie is Down's Syndrome. She sent Julie a beautiful flower arrangement and the card read: Will you be our flower girl? I took a picture/video of Julie saying yes I will. And then sent it to Samantha and Josh instantly via text.
