I ALWAYS loved the episodes where someone got pushed into the pool in their fancy clothes. The best fun ever. Dallas occasionally had great comedy. Coming from someone who’s watched the entire series 3 times over.

Dallas was all the rage back in the day, i just watched the old series on Prime. The new Dallas was really great too, sadly it only ran 3 seasons.. after Larry Hagman passed, TNT didnt pick it back up, many fans are still miffed about it. Myself included

I watched bits and pieces of this show as a kid in the 80s because my parents thought it was too graphic for me at the time. We lived in Zimbabwe at the time and BOY WAS IT A HIT! My mother would walk a mile clear across campus to the neighbours at night just to watch an episode (when our TV broke). At first, my favourite character was Bobby, but I thought JR had an accent, hat and swagger that was really cool. Later on, he became my favourite. Thanks for sharing your tour of Southfork and taking us along for the ride. Yeeehaaa!!! 👊😎

As a young boy, I remember every Friday night at my grandmother's house. I would watch the Dukes Of Hazzard at 8 and my mother, grandmother and two grandaunts would watch Dallas at 9, while I would either watch or play in the other room. As a little boy I do remember the names J.R., Bobby, Pam and Jock. I started watching Dallas in 1996 when TNN(now Paramount) would air Dallas weekday afternoons. I saw just about every episode, including the made for TV movies since. Dallas was awesome. I do hope to visit the city of Dallas and visit the Southfork Ranch.

I looked it up and it said that the episode that revealed who shot JR had an audience of 83 million in the US alone! Wow that’s a lot of viewers back in 1980. TV shows of today will never have that many. It’s so funny you guys are into the eighties because you are kinda young. I still remember the music, the movies and the tv shows from then but I was in my mid 20s to 30 then. I still listen to 80s music now lol! It was my favorite generation haha!

Hi Jeanne!! Wow, that’s crazy to think that many people tuned in, ha! Yes, we were young back then (elementary school up until early high school years) but I definitely agree that the music and pop culture was the best! We mostly gravitate to the music from our youth. Dallas was such an iconic and long-running show, lasting throughout the entire decade and then some! Having driven by Southfork so many times, it was exciting to finally go inside the “mansion” which actually wasn’t very big by today’s standards, lol! Thanks for watching 😊

Yes, the revelation of who shot JR, was the most watched tv episode in tv history, when it aired. That only lasted a few years, the 1983 MASH finale now holds the record for most watched tv episode in tv history, Who Shot JR remains at # 2. With all the channels these days, those numbers will never be beaten. If a show has 30 million these days, that’s HUGE.

I have seen other video tours of Southfork over the years, and have always been surprised how different the inside of the real house was compared to the interior of the house on the show. The only thing that was the same that I could tell was the patio and the pool area. To be honest, I loved the inside of the house more than the real house. Huge fan of the show. The interior with the winding staircase, etc was modeled after a home in Highland Park, near downtown Dallas, they built sets in California to match. The real house is way too small to fit film crews, etc.
@mistyic06

The homeowners at the time of the original series insisted that the show could only film exterior scenes and they could only film in July and august. They did not want filming going on during their children’s school year. A couple of scenes in the reboot were filmed in the house and Barbara Bel Geddes had the set designers build a replica of the kitchen for the set on the soundstage because she thought it fit Miss Ellie perfectly.

I so happen to remember WAY back,,, last week in July, 1985,,, my Mom and I drove to the SouthFork ranch property and went on a self walking tour of the outside,, and took pictures (includig of the swimming pool). Per my fuzzy memory from that glorious day,, there was some form of museum,, right outside the main property. During mid Summer 1985,, they were in between Dallas TV seasons,,, so no filming was taking place. Per my memory,, during the May, 1985 CLIFFhanger,,, Bobby Ewing was RUN down by Pam's sister (Katherine Wentworth) as she was speeding along in her car in Pam's driveway. Per the next season opener (Sept/Oct, 1985) the story had Bobby passing away,, and his funeral. That whole season ended up being a farce,, as it was Pam's DREAM season. Bobby showed up in the shower and came back to life at start of the following season. Hey!!! As that 1985/1986 period was supposedly Pam's "Dream",, I'm just wondering IF the 38 years that have passed since then have been an overall DREAM for all of us!!! Maybe we will all WAKE up tomorrow morning,, and it will be that same very date in late Sept, 1986 ,,, in all REALITY (just as we all were,, and WHERE we were). Wouldn't all that be "peachy"??? I could sure,, "go for that"!!! :-) :-)

One Sunday we drive through and traffic is practically stopped in the middle of the 2 lane FM 2551 with people standing in the road taking pictures. This went on for a few months then Parker got a Police Department. The Chief , Parker and the state had many No Parking, Stopping and Standing signs put up. It was only the beginning of a long era.

@@Our80sLife Southfork is a great place to visit. The only time the interior of the mansion was used was in the second movie “War of the Ewing’s” and the Reunion: RETURN TO SOUTHFORK. They didn’t always shoot all exterior scenes there either. A duplicate pool and outside area was created on the soundstage due to the heat. Then they never used real Southfork exteriors in the final two seasons. All was on soundstage. Thanks for sharing your video!

Good question! On the tour, they showed us three bedrooms downstairs and the large master bedroom upstairs, but there were a few doors upstairs that were closed to the public (used for bridal suites and things of that nature) so I'd venture to guess there are at least 5-6 total.

its nostalgic. I was a kid when my mom started watching Dallas in the Philippines, now I am actually binge-watching it. I think one of the reason it's successful is they never changed the theme song, the introduction was slightly different due to changing times in Dallas. I cannot believe how I found Pamela really annoying now lol.

We wouldn't doubt it. Southfork held a very special place in his heart. Also, he was originally from Fort Worth and passed away in Dallas, so that's likely. I consulted findagrave.com which authenticated, so it's probably true. Thanks Matt!

So when I saw that you were doing the filming location of Dallas I did not watch it at first Then when you put up the second video. I started to watch it but thought I better go watch the first one. I do not like the way they changed the inside of the house. It does not look like in the 80's. too much has changed. The front staircase has changed so many times. The dining area showed round windowsills but on the outside it was different.

@Our80sLife Жыл бұрын
The inside of the house was never actually used for filming, so that's why it looks different to you. Different homes in Dallas were used for seasons 1 and 2. After that, the interior sets were built on a soundstage, along with some exteriors and even a pool!
