In this video I have a look at a customer's Honda HRV. She seems to think that ever since the "boyfriend" changed the brakes she had all of the lights on the dash come on! Now we need to see if the BF is innocent or GUILTY! Let's have a look.

Pro tip. If you think you have a bad wheel bearing, grab the coil spring and spin the wheel. You can feel the vibration even if it isn't loud enough to hear.

Hall Effect will be three wire. Old school inductive will be two wire. Flex any wire millions of times and they break, funny enough so do the other ones about the same time. I did one of mine and the other failed two weeks later a few months later front one failed. You got high mileage and one goes might as well do the rest. They were seized in tight I had to destroy them to get them out of their hidey holes. Drilled them as well.

​@anthonywilson4873 yup. I did my neighbors brakes. High mile older crv. The abs light came on after i did the brakes. Scanned it, the wheel speed sensor for one of the wheels i did the brakes on failed. Told him its a high milage car, its thin wires, shit happens, nothing could have prevented it. You watched me do the brakes, i hung the caliper, didnt let it hang by the wires and hoses. It just happens. Get the sensor n ill throw it in for nothing. He never got the sensor, traded the car in many months later, barely talks to me anymore. He obviously thinks its my fault n i f**ked it up. Hes a tradesman too, union elecchicken/sparky, so he should know that things in trades are unpreventable, but some how his trades different than mine and when it happens in his trade its not his fault but it is in mine.

Thanks for the tip I'm not a car mechanic I learn everything on KZbin. I think I will be trying that soon my trucks been making a grinding and thumping noise especially on left turns. I jacked it up checked everything tried moving the tire back and fourth spun the wheel and only heard the brake pad on rotor. Checked tie rods. Ended up changing the axle out since grease was everywhere from it used a torque wrench for everything and the correct specs. same issue still. Next day driving it to work the brake pedal pulsated when I got it a mile down the road then another 5 miles down the road my abs light and service 4 wheel drive came on then by the time I got to work it was still grinding loud after a left turn and my back tire locked up and wouldn't move luckily I made it into the parking lot and was able to park . went outside for break it was freed up for a minute then locked again but still in 4 wheel drive. After truck sitting 4 hours later I was able to get it to go back into 2 wheel drive but even in 2 wheel drive same noise as I drove it home it hates left turns but now even makes noise going straight. In the beginning it was left turns only then would go back to normal a minute later after going straight

I found letting the wheel spin under pwr off the ground and you can feel a bad bearing in the suspension spring on that wheel.

Yes! I just did a wheel bearing and had to remove the knuckle, the worst part was trying to get the sensor out. I wish I knew it wasn't going to work beforehand because I just would've cut the wires as my brother had the lines replaced years ago and they bypassed the module claiming something dingy about the car not starting. I hate to wreck stuff, and most of it finally came out in pieces, but hopefully it's only for the non functional ABS and nothing else. 414k miles on an 08 Kia in the rust belt, so I shouldn't worry about it.

After searching unsuccessfully for a wheel lock key, the service writer called the customer and asked where it was. Her response was, "It's on my kitchen table. Why, do you need it? After that every customer was asked if they had wheel locks and they had to produce the key in person to the writer or the car wouldn't be brought in.

Typical Honda VSA Christmas tree light show! This can also happen if you disconnect the battery, forget to install a TPMS sensor, turn left while turning right, forget to thank your mother for the cookies, or any other thing that may or may not happen in our current spacetime continuum. Honda will also display all the faults as "current," even if they're not, and send you on a wild goose chase if you don't have the experience to interpret and prioritize codes for diagnostics. I've always joked that penetrating oil does a great job of lubricating the rust, so the rust can more efficiently hold the part in place. ;)

The shops I worked for trained the counter girl to always ask for the wheel lock be handed to her. That way it was the owner who tore their car apart to find it. Saved us literally hours each day of hunting.

Years ago working in a body shop while laid off , a woman showed up with a 70s camaro with her 2 kids and said while she was filling the car with gas , about 5 blocks away from the shop , the gas was coming out from under the car on the ground , the gas fumes were strong and a few drops of gas on the ground under the car , it had dual exhaust close on each side of the gas tank . She said her boy friend worked on the trunk cause of a water leak and a large amount of water in the trunk . We opened the trunk and about 3 gallon more or less of gas was in the trunk . She said he had drained the water out of the trunk , he had drove a punch , spike nail or something down threw the bottom of the trunk and down threw the top of the gas tank . Someone picked her up , after the car cooled off we pushed it inside . The woman , 2 kids and the gas station were all very lucky that day .....

I learned a similar lesson on a 2013 Ford Fiesta. Ohm check showed me the sensor was ok, 12v check failed but I hadnt realized the circuit was shut down. I cleared codes for fun and 12v was there. Come to find out it was a problem with the physical bearing which is what the sensor reads on those. Took me a couple hours but trust your gut is the lesson.

Had wheel locks on my Prius (which I didn't want, but was a "feature" from the dealer. I got rid of them after a safety inspection when the key didn't come back from the mechanic. When I discovered the missing key, I went back to the service station, they had two full buckets of wheel locks which they let me sort through. None of their wayward locks fit my car, so the service manager spun the locking wheel lug nuts off with an impact. I ordered a set of non-lolcking replacements and lived happily ever after.

That’s really the best solution. People think it’ll stop their wheels getting stolen. Which already isn’t really a big problem. Then add in you can buy kits that cover nearly all the wheel lock “keys”. The extra low level of security isn’t worth the hassle and potential problems of having a wheel locked on when you need to take it off.

Yesterday, I saw a news story where a woman had her AWD car towed by the city and they didn't use a flatbed. She's claiming that it has caused over $10000 in damage according to the dealership. They quickly showed the bill and I was able to pause it. The bill included items like needing a new sun visor, starter, battery, windshield wipers and security system.

Worked tire shop in the mid 90's, I swear seemed like ever other car had a wheel lock on it. Don't forget the locking hub caps too. And half of those owners had no clue were the stupid thing was, plenty of time we did the old hammer on a socket and buzz it off.

Tire valve stem caps work great to protect sensor holes when cleaning rust , push the cap in with the stem unthread from cap, clean rust rethread the stem in the cap and then pull the cap back out, brake clean wont hurt the cap.

Back in the days of factory wheel cover locks and when everybody that had fancy aluminum wheels paid dearly for them, wheel locks sold like crazy at our local GoodYear dealer. The funniest thing was when a customer lost the key, they would come back to US and demand that we remove them using 'our master key..'... like we were some sort of lock smithe.

I watched a series of shows from the UK, of a garage that maintained cop cars. The one mechanic used a handheld tool, that I have never seen before. It tested brake fluid, by burning it.

It tests the boiling point of the brake fluid, each fluid has a specific point according to the DOT (DOT3, DOT4, DOT5...)

Waste of time, if the fluid is 2-3 years old it's due based on moisture content alone. Brake fluid is extremely hygroscopic, only takes a few minutes for an open bottle to be contaminated. That's why you should always throw excess away.

ABSOLUTELY, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST WATCHED A KZbin VIDEO FIRST. WE ALL STARTED SOMEWHERE, FOR ME, IT WAS SHEER NECESSITY. ASK EVERYBODY YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT, THEN DO THE BEST YOU CAN, EVENTUALLY, YOU GET PRETTY GOOD AT BEING A SHADE TREE MECHANIC. SOMETIMES YOU FO ON TO BECOME A REAL MECHANIC AS I DID. I WENT TO LINCOLN TECHNICAL INSTITUTE AND GOT A FANTASTIC EDUCATION, THEN WENT ON TO OWN MY OWN SMALL BUSINESS OUT OF MY GARAGE. BUT BRAKES ARE NOTHING TO PLAY WITH. When it comes to suspected brake problems I'd never take out on the road with making sure they're going to work. There's a line from an old commercial. "A car that won't start is not a problem, a car that won't stop is a BIG problem."

I know I've ask this before, but I'm from the deep south and I lived hanging around my dad. He could fix anything on a car. On his days off, he'd have a a fee cars from folks that we'd fix...and he called it "panther p!$$". Word gets around. I wonder where the phrase comes from? You have great videos. Pro Tip for anyone that needs to wear ear plugs - These Pink and Yellow ear plug Eric showed is the absolute best ear plug on the market. They are very soft and can be compressed down to fit deep down in the ear canal for maximum noise suppression. Buy the ones with the plastic string that attached them together and cut the string off leaving about 3/4 inch so you can pull them out without having to get a pair of needle nose pliers to extract them.. I used to have to wear ear plugs when I used to fly a powered paramotor sometimes for 3-4 or more hours at a time. These are the only ear plugs that did not cause me any discomfort from wearing them for a long period of time. All other ear plugs caused me to have earaches and headaches after extended use. Another plus is you can wear them all night when your spouse snores loudly.

My neighbours lawn mowers Moo ( has Cows ) My lawn mowers Baa ( Have Sheep ) The next door neighbours along use a petrol mower .... occasionally ( when the sheep can't keep up with eating the grass on the front lawn ) Ride on mower ( not a sheep ) is in the shed and I haven't used it in months .

In the dark, go drive some green colored rebar 4 feet down and about 4 inches up, wait for the sudden knock and sure stop and enjoy the quiet for a few days! 😂😂

Bad bearings usually resonate in the coil springs......by just touching the spring you can usually feel the bad bearing! Worked for German manufacturers my whole life......wheel speed sensors were a nightmare. Some harnesses had to be run all the way back to the brake controller......which is usually attached to the pump!! Later things got better. But then harness problems still were problems!!

Whirlpool turns off the wash motor circuit on dishwasher because it's neutral switched with a triac. Kinda, you'll get a blip of voltage and if control doesn't see feedback it stops sending neutral.

First, thanks for using and demonstrating the hobo freight diagnostic tool, good to see a pro use it for us DIY folks to see. Second, I wonder if the boyfriend damaged a couple wires internally when taking off the caliper, who knows 🤷🏽 also, I bet honda shuts off the circuit to protect the rest of the system but i agree they should provide more information. Anyway, love watching you fix stuff!
