As someone that worked at a boat shop in hs/college and now owns boats, another issue I often see is people burying there life jackets in compartments with junk over them. There should be dedicated lifevest compartments on every boat and nothing should obstruct access to those life jackets.
@FaradayBananacage3 ай бұрын
Commercial vessels are subject to a higher level of regulation, and already require what you've proposed. Life vest cabinets to be clear at all times, and a certain number of them. But you clearly already knew that.
@MB121163 ай бұрын
@@FaradayBananacage yes. However, I label the life jacket compartment with a label maker on each of my boats (I am just a normal guy, not commercial) and have a decimated safety bag in each boat wihich is also in a labeled compartment.
@FaradayBananacage3 ай бұрын
@@MB12116 I see your point. You're doing it right, but that's not mandatory on small or private vessels but probably should be. Even a canoe is required to have registration, at least in Minnesota, and the DNR will figuratively pull you over and check that yours is valid, you have at least one life jacket per person, you're not overloaded, over your fishing limit, or drunk. I don't think I've ever head of anyone being cited for drunk canoeing though.

Excellent video for the uninitiated or new person perspective. I am a former F/fighter- Medic as well as dive rescue qualified, but all of my rescue/recovery dives were all in Alaska, thus all were cold water/ ice dives and I wore fleece undies and a pretty good DUI dry suit for just about every dive!

Hey I got a question, how old were you when you got on the dive team? I'm 27 and just took the entrance exam for the local FD and my goal is to get on a dive team. I'm saving up money to get my first scuba cert but I'm worried I'm starting this a little too late

Side scan sonar would help pin point the victim and speed recovery. I know this is for dramatic effect though. Nice equipment, 1000% better than we had at Summit County Water Rescue back in the 80s and 90s. Stay Safe!! lol my bad didn’t watch to the end you did utilize the side scan. We were just getting that back in the 99s it’s come along way.

I'd love an update on the various new units/unit numbering structure (i.e: MED2, SAF1, SAF2, etc)
@AIDannnnnnnnnnnn6 ай бұрын
SAF1 and SAF2 were originally Safety 18 and Safety 35. They were renamed to 1 and 2 to align with others like MED1, DC1, BC2, etc. Additionally, MED2 is the EMS District Supervisor and typically responds in place of MED1.

I think they were told it was training once they were enroute. Also, depends on how close the station was to the lake. Lights and sirens don't always mean you will get their quicker.

There are many DOT exemption for fire departments including CDL exemptions and seat belt exemptions that are based on SOP and not DOT . All though you should always wear a seat belt when you can but in many cases with special services call time is money.

I respect these people, but lets face it, AWP would have found this "victim" in a 1/4 of the time. 1st do side scan, then confirm with 360, then do a grid sweep seems very time consuming imo. But im also a idiot so....
@JPINFV8 ай бұрын
It doesn't really matter. If you're waiting for the fire department to rescue a drowning victim, it's too late. There's no way to get an ETA short enough to matter.
