Taken from mr.hankey's Christmas Classic (1999) from season 3 of South Park (1997-present) this is actually one of the Christmas specials. And an album of the same name consisting of version of songs from the show as well as a number of additional songs was released the week prior to the episode's original air date: December 1st 1999.
@amaniwhite96224 жыл бұрын
speaking of 1999, 1999 was the same year South Park (1997-present) had it's big screen debut with it's very first movie: south park bigger longer and uncut (1999) released by paramount pictures on June 30th 1999. Gosh! 1999 was such a great and nostalgic year wasn't it?

0:45 Notice how, after this shot, Ike is the one holding the dreidel If you listen to the album version of this song, you'll notice Ike is supposed to sing here. That means it is very likely that there's a small clip of this scene that got deleted from the final version.

There's a deep and beautiful message in this song. We see so many different types of approaches to Hanukkah, to Judaism, and to God here exemplified by the different characters: Kyle's innocent sincerity, Ike's being too young to understand but trying, Stans's apathy but mild interest and acceptance as a good Noahide, Sheila's authoritarian overbearingness, Dad's not even seeing the spirituality for all his worldliness, and even Cartman's horrible antisemitism. And you'd think that all of those voices would be a tuneless cacophony. And yet, under the orchestration of God, all of these voices - even the unpleasant, ignorant, and terrible ones - form a unified, intricate, highly intentional highly complex melody that builds inexorably towards the Redemption. That's God's Hand in Creation. I love this song, this particular version of it.

I love how this song is all over the place, so first of all you have Kyle singing “Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel I made you out out clay, dreidel, dreidel , dreidel, with dreidel I shall play”, then Stan starts singing “I’ll try to make it spin, it fell I’ll try again”. Then you have Eric singing “Jews, play stupid games, Jews, that’s why they’re lame”, then there’s Kyle’s mom singing like an opera singer. Finally to top it all off there’s Gerald singing “Courtney Cox I love you, you’re so hot on that show”. Absolutely brilliant 🤣

This song really captures the characters' personalities perfectly. For example Stan is known to be cynical and pessimistic and he sings about how he tries to make the dreidel spin, it falling and that he'll try again, whereas Cartman sings about how jews and their traditions are lame and Kyle is very happy to sing about his religion and the dreidel.
